I was treated to the most perfect morning at Seney National Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A few clouds to reflect the sun before it rose. In the dawn's early light, I found six great blue herons and a pair of sandhill cranes enjoying the light fog together. Perfect.

Finally...the J Pool loon chicks were close enough to shore for me to get a few photos of them...at Seney National Wildlife Refuge. They are now six weeks old and at that between stage of losing their downy feathers and being replaced by adult plumage. The parents were just returning from a morning social at another pool. So, I was lucky to catch them before the adults told them to get away from shore. LOL.

I spent over an hour this morning walking up and down the drive at G Pool observing and photographing these four common loons at Seney National Wildlife Refuge. The best way to get your steps in...and enjoy these amazing creatures before they leave for the season. One of the visitors was ABJ and Fe's daughter BC aka Jinx, B Pool female, hatched in 2010 and banded by Common Coast Research & Conservation.

Another favorite from yesterday at Seney National Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I was thrilled when all three of the loons on G Pool took off heading toward me...curving to fly in front of me. I was happy to catch two of them together.
