(2)(5) Years Of Service

A little bit late but yesterday marked 25 years since the R142/As made their debut on the rails. On July 10, 2000 both the R142s and R142As would make their first run on the rails. The R142s made its first appearance on the (2) and the R142As would make its first appearance on the (6). Hard to believe that these cars are 2 decades and a half old now. They’re a year older than me and most of us born in 2001 lol.

Anyway, here in this photo is a Flatbush Ave bound R142 (2) train heading into the portal to make a stop at 3 Ave-149 St and next to it is an Eastchester-Dyre Ave bound R142 (5) train raising onto the elevated structure and heading towards Jackson Ave as the next stop. Small fact here, but the Hub used to be my neighborhood in the Bronx from the early 00s(2003) to the late 00s(2008) so I’ve ridden these cars a lot as a little kid you can say lol.

King of Kings.

Shown here is a Woodlawn bound Kawasaki R62 (4) Train departing Fordham Road, en-route to Kingsbridge Road. At the time this photo was taken, there was a shortage of trains that led to the R62s returning to the (4) line for one day only.

Return from the Dead.

Shown here is a 8-Car R33/36 Redbird Train signed as the (7) Train bypassing Canal Street, returning to Coney Island Yard after running for the Mets Home Opener. Also, you can see the old Brown (M) Train sign still visible at Canal Street. The Brown (M) route from Metropolitan Avenue to Bay Parkway has been discontinued since 2010, and has been relabeled to Orange, indicating service along 6th Avenue and still runs even to this day.
