A thought hit me today. If I were to ask for your phone for a few minutes and go through your camera roll, I would likely be able to know what holds the most value in your life. Not from your apps, nor from your financial data, nor from your social media platforms, but from your photographs alone. The individuals you repeatedly capture, the moments you wish to preserve, and the things that prompt you to say, “Wait, I need a picture of this.” Your children, your spouse, your dog, your garden, a sunset, a family gathering, a new baby, a grandparent. What is noteworthy is that most of us are already cognizant of what matters most to us. We carry numerous reminders with us daily. The camera roll serves as a visual record of what we cherish, not what we profess to be important, but what truly is. My kids, my garden, my experiences… I photograph everything that holds significance because I don’t want to forget. I want to be able to revisit that reminder in 5 years… 10, heck 50 years and say wow I lived an amazing life. I will be able to reconnect with the memories on a profound visual level. And I can’t think of a more important thing in the world than remembering my life and the things I loved.

If someone were to look through your phone photos, what or who would be most important to you? Show me in the comments!

If you could save only one non-living item from your house, what would it be?

I've spent a long time telling myself that the rodeo chapter of my life was over. No horse, no trailer, no hauling every weekend. And somehow I convinced myself I didn't belong there anymore. Standing at the arena today, I realized that just because I don't have a horse doesn't mean I can't still be part of the rodeo community. I can still cheer from the stands, be friends with the people I love to be around, and appreciate the lifestyle. And most importantly, I can still share it with my family. Because rodeo and horses shaped who I am. You don't stop being you just because life looks different than it used to. I know sometimes you don't need to go back to your old life, but with this, I think I just need to find a new way to be part of it and integrate it into our current life. 🤍 Because this rodeo life is something incredibly special. 🙌🏼

Your marketing isn't annoying.

Your marketing is the reason someone finds you.

The family looking for a newborn photographer.
The woman finally ready to book a bo***ir session.
The couple searching for someone they can trust with their memories.

They can't hire you if they don't know you exist.

So post the photo.
Share the reel.
Tell people what you do.

Keep showing up. Especially in person.
Your future clients are looking for you right now. ❤️

Photography is just professionally saying:
"Move two inches to the left."

"No, your other left." 😂

What Clients Actually Praise Might Surprise You

Photographers spend a lot of time talking about cameras, lenses, lighting, editing styles, and technical skill.

But recently, I noticed something interesting.

A client who has worked with me multiple times and invested thousands into her portraits jumped into a conversation and shared her experience.

She didn’t mention:
❌ My camera
❌ My lighting setup
❌ My editing style
❌ My Photoshop skills

Instead, she talked about:

✔️ Me helping her go through her closet
✔️ Bringing her vision to life
✔️ Feeling taken care of throughout the process
✔️ Her husband (who hates spending money 😂) actually loving the final artwork

And honestly? That’s a powerful reminder.

As photographers, we often think clients are just buying photography.

They’re not.

They’re buying confidence.
They’re buying guidance.
They’re buying an experience.
They’re buying the feeling they have when they see themselves in a photograph and think:

“Wow. That’s really me.”

The camera is just the tool.

The real value is in helping someone feel seen, understood, and celebrated.

So if you’re a photographer, here’s something to think about:

Go read your last 10 client reviews.

How many mention your camera?

How many mention how you made them feel?

I think you’ll find the answer tells you a lot about what you’re actually selling.

✨ And that’s where the magic is. ✨

The artist you become tomorrow is built by the work you create today. Don’t make the art wait for creation because you’re waiting for perfection. It’s already perfect because it’s yours. 🤍
