From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era is expanding its community screening program into Illinois.

This independently produced documentary preserves the firsthand stories of Iowa men and women whose lives were shaped by military service during the Vietnam era. Although the stories begin in Iowa, the experiences of service, sacrifice, family, coming home, and remembrance extend far beyond state lines.

I’m currently looking to connect with veterans organizations, libraries, theaters, museums, colleges, senior communities, civic groups, and other organizations throughout Illinois interested in hosting a community screening.

Screenings can include an introduction to the project, recognition of veterans in attendance, a post-film discussion, and opportunities to continue preserving the stories of Vietnam-era veterans.

I’d appreciate any help sharing this with organizations or communities that may be interested.

From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era is expanding its community screening program into Missouri.

This independently produced documentary preserves the firsthand stories of Iowa men and women whose lives were shaped by military service during the Vietnam era. Although the stories begin in Iowa, the experiences of service, sacrifice, family, coming home and remembrance extend far beyond state lines.

I’m currently looking to connect with veterans organizations, libraries, theaters, museums, colleges, senior communities, civic groups and other organizations throughout Missouri interested in hosting a community screening.

Screenings can include an introduction to the project, recognition of veterans in attendance, a post-film discussion and opportunities to continue preserving the stories of Vietnam-era veterans.

Calhoun County Farm Bureau Proudly Supports Vietnam/Iowa Film

Thousands of Iowa veterans who served during the Vietnam War returned home to build lives and careers in agriculture. The Calhoun County Farm Bureau believes it’s important to preserve their stories of service and sacrifice for America.

You’re invited to attend a screening of the documentary film “From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era” at the Capri Theatre in Lake City on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. This award-winning film tells the stories of Iowans who served in the military during the Vietnam era.

During the Vietnam War (1964–1975), about 115,000 Iowans served in the military. A large number came from farm families. Many veterans found that the independent, purposeful nature of agriculture provided a viable transition back to civilian life after combat.

Iowa filmmaker Jeremy Glazier, who produced “From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era,” will be in Lake City for the September 12 showing of the film. The first 50 people who come to the movie will get in free, thanks to the Friends of the Community Memorial Building. Everyone who attends can enjoy free popcorn, courtesy of the Calhoun County Farm Bureau. Free pop is sponsored by the Dougherty family of Lake City. (This is Calhoun County Farm Bureau Director Darcy Maulsby’s family). United Bank of Iowa is also helping sponsor this unique event.

AMES & STORY COUNTY — I’d love to bring From Iowa and Back your way.

One of my personal goals with From Iowa and Back: The Vietnam Era is to take the film into as many of Iowa’s 99 counties as possible.

I’m a lifelong Iowan, as were my father, grandfather and great-grandfather. My father’s military service helped inspire this project, so there is something especially meaningful to me about carrying these Iowa stories back into communities across the state.

Ames also has a connection to the film: a few of the veterans featured in the documentary have ties to Iowa State University.

I’m currently looking for veterans organizations, libraries, theaters, Iowa State groups, senior communities, historical organizations, businesses, civic groups and others in Ames and Story County who may be interested in hosting a community screening.

Screenings can include the full documentary, a filmmaker introduction, Q&A, veteran recognition and the opportunity to connect with local Vietnam-era veterans. Events can also be sponsor-supported or structured as fundraisers.

Happiest of birthdays to our friend and Iowa Veteran, Tommy Lee Tommy Ritchie.
