Buffalo. Bison. BUFFALO. BISON.

Buffalo (the African or Cape Buffalo) does not look particularly similar to the Bison. Yet, the colloquial, and particularly incorrect, use of “buffalo” to refer to bison proliferates.

I’m tinkering with two-tone grading, using contrasting colors—one tint for highlights, one for shadows, and leaving midtones monochrome. Five slightly different photos with different contrasting tint, which do you prefer? They’re fairly subtle.

Target Identified.
Two juvenile bald eagles flying together, and the next 2-3 seconds became quite a show. The play went on for minutes, but this was the best couple seconds I could capture.

Now whenever I return to hometown Cedar Rapids, if time allows I’ll cut out early in the morning to watch the local bald eagles.

Let’s Dance.

Top Gun.
I can imagine if I were designing fighter jets, I’d be studying these birds to observe how their wings move, how they manipulate the air’s forces to stay right on their target, and implement those lessons as best I could. Watching these two young bald eagles felt like a scene from Top Gun.

Happy Right Swipe Day, honey! 😊➡️👉📆

We got engaged, married, moved cross-country AND had a son. But this day always feel more about the dating, as in the getting to know and the reconnecting after long and heavy work/parenting week(s). So for this year, I went back to some of my favorite dates with you when nobody else we knew was around.

These are:
1. First “proper” date (other than the dog park first meetup 7/31/17 lol), August 2017
2. Random walking around ladybird lake in Austin, September 2017
3. Chicago, downtown date weekend after cousin Michael’s wedding, Sept 10, 2017.
4. Westin hotel lobby (random walking stop) after dinner at Parkside, Sept. 17, 2017, the day we decided we were a couple.
5. Belize river boat tour day, Jan. 19, 2018.
6. Dai Due for nice dinner before the show (Book of Mormon) for Lola’s 30th birthMONTH lol, April 18, 2018.
7. Checking out the house we were building, Feb. 18, 2018.
8. Birthday No. 27 (you get younger every year, honey!), at the Opera! Aor. 27, 2019.
9. Outside Eldorado Cafe on June 21, 2019.
10. Outside Mammoth Hot Springs, Montana at the northern edge of Yellowstone National Park, when I learned you really could hang in the outdoors and made an excellent camping teammate! We pitched tents and took them down in 2-3 minutes each time. August 4, 2019.

I love you, and I love working at life, parenting, marriage—all of it—with you. You’re the best partner I could ask for! Love you, babe!
