⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON & EVENING ⚠️
After this morning’s storms and heavy rain, attention turns to another round of strong to severe thunderstorms later today. A Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) is in place for portions of Iowa, with damaging winds, large hail, a tornado or two, and additional heavy rainfall possible.
A relative lull is expected from late morning into early afternoon before storms begin redeveloping during the mid to late afternoon. The greatest severe weather threat is expected from late afternoon through the evening, with storms spreading east and potentially organizing into a larger complex tonight.
How quickly the atmosphere recovers from this morning’s storms will determine exactly where the greatest threat develops. Current indications favor areas generally south of Highway 20, although that corridor could shift.
Damaging winds are the primary severe threat, with large hail and a tornado or two also possible, especially with any more isolated storms early on. Torrential rainfall will also remain a concern, and additional heavy rain could quickly lead to flash flooding in areas that have already received significant rainfall.
