~Significant Severe Weather Monday~

Significant severe weather continues to appear probable Monday afternoon, evening, and potentially into the overnight hours. Intense thunderstorms are most likely to occur in portions of MN, WI, IL, and IA. Expect development to occur quickly during the early to mid-afternoon hours on the northwest fringe of the orange/yellow areas and move southeast into the evening. The exact position of the warm front will dictate where severe weather will be greatest, but a cluster of thunderstorms should ride the warm front for several hours producing swaths of damaging wind gusts, potentially hurricane force strength (74+. mph), as well as a few tornadoes.

~Heat Wave Starting~

The start of an extended stretch of extreme heat begins for a few areas today. Tomorrow begins a larger area of extreme heat. Temperatures in the upper 80s/low 90s and dew points in the upper 70s will push heat indices above 100 degrees in all of the pink area tomorrow. Cooler conditions are expected north of the warm front and west of the cold front. Expect multiple more days of extreme heat, but it seems greater thunderstorm coverage and slowly retreating ridging may save quite a bit of areas from having 4-5 days of 100+ heat index like what guidance has been showing. Either way, a hotter than normal week ahead.
