Rainbow Falls
The Gorge Trail in Watkins Glen State Park is home to 19 waterfalls. I had seen photographs of this scene years ago and put it on my bucket list of places I wanted to see. Luckily things worked out this year on our travels and I was finally able to visit this special place. It is often quite crowded as it was the first time I walked the trail. Luckily that was not the case when I returned to photograph it. The total Gorge Trail is around 3 miles long and well worth doing the entire trail. If you ever have the chance to see it, consider yourself lucky. It took mother nature 10,000 years to create this masterpiece and some very talented CCC masons to create the walkways and bridges to enjoy it. Dickson Falls
This is the most popular hike in Canada's Fundy National Park and for good reason. The hike is less than a kilometer and has a great wooden walkway. THe parking lot for the hike is just off one of the park's main roads. We came here twice on the same day. At midday it is very crowded and finding a parking space can be difficult. We returned in the evening when I captured this image and the parking lot was almost empty. There were still people enjoying the falls and I had to be patient to get this image, but tyhe wait was worth it in such a lovely setting. I even showed one young woman how to get a photo of the waterfall with her iphone that gave the falls the milky look you only get with a long exposure. She was thrilled.

Boar's Head
We found this lighthouse on our tour of Digby Neck and the islands connected to the neck by ferries. As luck would have it a local whale watching tour company came by as I was photographing the Boar's Head Lighthouse. I can only guess at this point they were looking for other wildlife along the coast being this close to shore. We had just seen a bald eagle fly by before they arrived. Head Harbour
We made an excursion into Canada to visit Campobello Island and saw that this lighthouse was on the northern end of the island. I'm always on the lookout for another lighthouse to photograph and this one did not disappoint. You can see the ripples in the water of the tide going out in this photo. There was a stairway that would have taken you closer to the water, but it was closed with a sign indicating the tide was the reason for the closure. For the record, I love lighthouses. This particular one was one of the more challenging lighthouses I have photographed for several reasons. You have to be there at low tide, there are crowds and parking is very tough to come by, to get the right angle requires some scrambling over rocks and the weather needs to cooperate. Seeing sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park has been on my bucket list for years. This is the first place that sees the sunrise in the continental US in the summer because of it's elevation 1500 feet above the Atlantic Ocean (in the winter the first place to see sunrise in the continental US is in Lubec, Maine a little to the north and east of Acadia National Park).

The national park only issues so many passes per day for sunrise. 30% of the passes are released several months before any given day and the other 70% are released 3 days before the date. When the passes are released by the park they are quickly grabbed up. There is no way to know what the weather will be like on any given morning.

Yesterday it was raining all day and into the night. I was wondering if our sunrise would happen. Luckily when I got up to take our dog out for his morning walk I could see stars so it looked like we would be in luck. The stars were with us and so was the closest one this morning.

Portland Head
Portland Head Lighthouse has been on my list of places I wanted to photograph for quite a while. When we began planning our trip to Maine I looked for a place we could stay close to the lighthouse. Luckily the day we planned to make the trip to the lighthouse we had wonderful weather. One of the nicest days we had seen this spring. Of course there were lots of other tourists enjoying the day too, but to be able to photograph this place on such a beautiful day was a real joy. Mash Fork
This is Mash Fork Waterfalls found in Camp Creek State Park. This is one of 2 waterfalls in the state park and an easy walk from the campground. The rhododendrens behind the falls were beginning to bud when we were there but had not yet bloomed. I imagine if we were there a week or 2 later they would have been in full bloom. Upper Falls

Alabama Sunset
In November we were working our way to the Gulf Coast and stayed in Meaher State Park in Alabama. I was wondering if we'd get a nice sunset while we were at the park and how it would look since I-10 was going to be in any sunset photo from the park.
