“Film”
Eight years ago, I was wrapping up my very first semester of photo school. We were learning manual exposure on Hasselblad 500CMs, shooting Ilford Delta 100 B&W, developing our film, enlarging prints in the darkroom, retouching, and even cutting our own mats. It was such a humbling introduction to the craft. This was my final project !!
Those hours in the lab and the energy from my incredible classmates made me fall in love with film photography. I even bought my own Hasselblad 500cm (it doesn’t get used nearly as often as it deserves… wompwomp)
I’m so grateful for the incredibly talented instructors who shared their knowledge with us and for the classmates who made learning feel collaborative instead of intimidating. Hawkeye’s Photography Program was such a big part of who I am as an artist. I always knew I’d pursue photography, but getting to learn alongside people who cared as deeply about the craft as I did was such a gift. I met incredible humans during that time, some people I’m lucky to still call friends today.
Anyways… the amazing Larry Erickson did dock me a couple points because my edges were a little off 💀 but ya know, moments like that are part of what made the whole experience unforgettable.
