This LQQKS Amazing!
I still have my original Grays Anatomy Book I received from my Mother when I was 10 years old.
The Thackray Museum of Medicine has recentlyopened its latest must-see exhibition: Beneath the Sheets: Anatomy, Art and Power.
For centuries, anatomical art has brought the dead to life in striking, sometimes unsettling detail. But these drawings tell more than just scientific facts—they reveal the tastes, desires, and power dynamics of the people who made them.
Why it’s worth the trip to Leeds:
✨ Unseen Treasures: An intimate look at the Thackray’s extensive anatomical artwork collection.
🌍 Hidden Stories: Discover the "stories in the margins"—the women and people of colour who were dissected and displayed but rarely given a voice in history.
🖼️ A Medical First: See what is believed to be the only Black body depicted in a Victorian anatomical atlas, a rare illustration by master Joseph Maclise.
🤔 Thought-Provoking: It’s a provocative look at how we understand the human body today.
Whether you're an art lover, a history buff, or just looking for a "Day Out" that’s a bit out of the ordinary, this is a fascinating look under the skin of medical history.
