Yesterday the Oakland Fire Department celebrated its 157th birthday. A celebration was held at the old Station 11 where the first African American firefighters hired by OFD worked out of. Several retirees, some of whom worked out of this at station, were also in attendance. Happy Birthday OFD!

Long Live the Engine – Santa Monica (Jan 29–31, 2026)

Three days of lectures, hands-on training, and real conversations about engine company culture brought firefighters together from across the nation and Mexico. From live fire engine ops and high-rise training to forcible entry, TIC, and EV fire mitigation, the weekend was packed with solid instruction and skill-building.

Presented by and hosted by , the event also featured the “Keeping California Engine Culture Alive – From the Back Seat” table talk on mentorship, leadership, and passing down traditions. Huge thanks to the instructors, speakers, and everyone who showed up to keep the engine culture strong.

1/19/25 - Just after 7:00am this morning, Oakland Fire responded to reports of smoke coming from an occupied residential building on the corner of 19th Street and Broadway. Arriving companies reported smoke coming from multiple floors and initiated an aggressive fire attack and prioritized searching for victims. Shortly after, a second alarm was requested, which was followed by a third alarm. Firefighters and paramedics treated between 3-5 victims for injuries, with some requiring further treatment at local hospitals. The incident was placed under control at 8:40am. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
