Today I decided to see just how much light I could capture within the Cartwright Tunnel in North Dakota....not much!š It's so dark in there, you cannot see your hand in front of your face. I took the photos with the longest exposure and my aperture WIDE open to allow as much light as possible, and still the photos are mostly black. During editing, I made a copy of a couple and turned the exposure all the way up to see just how bright I could get it...again, not much. Surprise! I got a tumbleweed in one of the photos. I didn't know it was there at all until we turned a flashlight on.
The Cartwright Tunnel was built in 1912ā1913. It is North Dakotaās only railroad tunnel. Handādug with simple tools, it stretches over a quarter mile and was originally part of a Great Northern Railway project. Today, itās a historic walking trail connected to the Fairview Lift, which I will make a post about soon!
