Let's talk about UMBILICAL CORDS!

It's your baby's lifeline, carrying oxygen and nutrients from the placenta while taking waste products away. It's protected by a cushion called Wharton's jelly, which helps keep the blood vessels from being compressed as your baby twists, turns, kicks, an even grabs onto it.

One of the most common questions we hear is, "Should I be worried if the cord is around the baby and/or close to their neck/face/head?"

Most of the time, the answer is no. Seeing the cord near your baby's neck, arms, or body is very common because babies have lots of room to move. In fact, about 20–30% of babies are born with the cord around their neck (called a nuchal cord), and the vast majority are born perfectly healthy. Since babies receive oxygen through the umbilical cord and not by breathing air before birth- a nuchal cord is usually not harmful.

While there are some situations where the cord requires closer monitoring by your healthcare provider, simply seeing it during an ultrasound is generally a normal part of pregnancy.

So if you catch a glimpse of it on the screen, you're usually just seeing your baby's incredible little lifeline doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Ok guys! Let’s get our timelines together! If you’re wanting to do a 4th of July gender reveal and will be 7-13 weeks before the 4th, you’ll have to do bloodwork and it’ll need to be done by next Tuesday the 30th.
If you’re 14 weeks or more and want to know, you can come up until the 4th, we will be working half a day on Sat July 4. Let’s make those appts now so you’re not scrambling last minute!
