Sometimes a photoshoot is so much more than a photoshoot. Like there’s a larger and far more meaningful reason why I’m in the moment with my camera witnessing, documenting, and creating art out of what I see in front of me. It’s pure flow as I stand in awe, gratitude, and genuine presence with the people and emotional depth unfolding around me.
This experience with as they built these beautiful rooms from scratch for a young boy and his family whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer was one of these times. got to design the room and this community of volunteers led by created these stunning room for Elias and his sister in a day. Elias has cancer and by the time they created this room in December, they thought it had completely gone away. Then, a few weeks ago, their family received some of the toughest news a young boy and his family can hear.. the cancer was back and the prognosis doesn’t look great.
I don’t know what the future holds for Elias, nobody does, but this moment of pure awe and love from him, and all of us, is a memory I’ll hold dearly and I hope his family does too. His excitement seeing his Ronaldo picture and cherished memorabilia all across his new room, his mothers’ tears, and the brief moment where the hospital and chemotherapy wasn’t even a thought... that means the world and I’m grateful I got to play a small part in capturing it in photos & videos for them.
If you’re a prayer warrior, holistic healer, or just want to help in some way, this family could use it. They are strong, have been through more than most of us can imagine, and have a tough road ahead while they balance normality and helping give Elias the best rest of his life they can. This has been a reminder that none of us know how much time we have here and the importance of cherishing every day of it. I’m taking their family pictures this evening and am so grateful to help capture their joy and smiles in pictures they can cherish for life.
