A long overdue change!

Copyright for photographers has long been an expensive and complicated process in the US, with photographers having to jump through hoops, and spend out, to achieve the protection that their counterparts in many countries receive automatically, without cost.

Another new bill is attempting to simplify the over complicated, expensive, US situation.

Remembering photographer Lewis Wickes Hine who was born on this day, September 26th, in 1874.

Hine used his camera as a tool for social reform and his images were instrumental in changing child labour laws in the United States.

My very first camera, from 1953. A Kodak Pony 828. Still functions, although the slower shutter speeds are a bit unreliable.
What makes this even more interesting, I've come across some unopened and unused 828 film. It's dated 1972. I'm half tempted to load and shoot. Just to see what might come out.

Remembering Czech photographer Josef Sudek, who died on this day, September the 15th, in 1976.

Originally a book-binder Josef took up photography after losing an arm in WW1 - he went on to become internationally renowned for his work across a variety of photographic genres.

Remembering the late, Hungarian-French, photographer Gyula Halász - more commonly know as Brassaï, who was born on this day, September the 9th, in 1899.

Brassaï had a passion for night photography, and famously described his method of exposure timing thus:

'To gauge my shutter time, I would smoke cigarettes—a Gauloise for a certain light, a Boyard if it was darker.

The policemen on patrol wondered what kind of crime I was in the midst of committing. They had never seen anyone taking pictures at night and for good reason.

To clear myself, I always had some prints with me to show them. I have noticed that policemen are very interested in photography. So they immediately became friendlier... '
