"Do I really have to do this?"

About 10 minutes into the session...
"This isn't so bad."

Is your baby turning one soon? 🎂 Before you book your first birthday photo session, there are a few things I really wish every parent knew ahead of time.

Like the fact that babies don't naturally understand what cake is. Or that a baby who looks intensely focused while eating frosting is actually having the time of their life. They're just too busy enjoying it to smile about it, which is honestly very relatable.

I also cover something I get asked about a lot: what to do if you don't want a cake smash at all. Because not every family does, and that is completely okay. A first birthday session without the cake can be just as meaningful and just as beautiful.
