And just like that…. life starts to feel so happy again. I have to share this because my queen of a friend, Heather, helped me through some of the most challenging phases of my life and this laugh makes everything feel good again. My goodness, I wish you could feel the light of her presence.

Briefly stepped out of “retirement” to photograph my bestie girl and John’s first set of maternity photos. My heart can hardly handle the excitement of the news that they’re expanding their family. These two have helped shape our lives for the better in ways that we can’t fully explain in words. A few years back, they invited us into their life group with open arms and are the reason that Ty and I are getting baptized in a few short weeks. We can’t wait to spend a lifetime loving on this sweet new addition. 🤍 Welcome to the family, Baby O.

If you want the perfect example of how to spin something negative into a positive, this was the day that stands out the most for me. Claire and Brice had to re-plan their wedding, shorten their guest list, and switch venues at the last minute due to increased COVID-19 cases. Despite all of that it was, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever witnessed. Without the stress of having to speed through a timeline, it felt like everyone was able to be fully present and truly enjoy each moment. There wasn’t a rush to get through photos or move from venue to venue. It was simply, a beautiful celebration, for the most amazing newlyweds and I am so grateful to have been a part of it! 🤍

The holidays flew by and I stepped away from social media to live in the moment and relax after a relatively chaotic year of business. 🌿 I’ve decided that January will be the perfect month to share photos from sessions that never left the archives and to showcase some of my favorite photos from winter weddings that haven’t made their way to this page yet! I’m so excited for the year ahead and I’m incredibly grateful to all of my brides/families that allowed my business to survive 2020. Y’all are the ultimate gift!

Playing catch up on sharing photos from the past weeks’ photo sessions. It’s an absolutely beautiful blessing to capture my couples’ love stories.

The words that have weighed heavily on my heart are similar to those you’ve seen scattered across social media. There are POC in my life that I love very deeply (including an incredibly loving aunt who is quite literally the smartest person I know, the most incredible role model and one of the best friends you could ask for). I’ve created this image to express the emotions I’ve been feeling over the past weeks, but I’d like to use this post to bring awareness to ways we can make a difference. I won’t pretend to have all, or even the majority of the answers because there is still so much to learn. For now, I know this:⠀

To the photography community: Share photos or artwork from black creatives on social media. Don’t take credit for them - share them to your stories so people can find and view their pages.⠀

Read! Read everything you can. Right now my husband, one of my best friends and I are reading “So You Want to Talk About Race” by and it’s INCREDIBLE so far.⠀

Follow your local Black Lives Matter groups on social media. Learn from them.⠀

Support black owned businesses.⠀

Volunteer for a mentoring program (my brother does this and I’ve seen how much joy it’s brought him and his mentee over the years). This is one thing that could potentially alter the entire course of someone’s life.⠀

Have conversations. Talk to your black friends. Ask them how they’re feeling - how you can help. Talk to your family members and friends who most likely have many questions.⠀

Don’t run the show. We’ve done enough of that already - and also understand that uncomfortable feelings are the beginning stages of personal growth.

It doesn’t matter what you believe in politically, religiously or otherwise. We all deserve to be seen, heard, loved and valued. 🤍

I feel so fortunate to be working with some absolutely incredible couples this year. 🙌🏼 2020 hasn’t been an easy year as a small business owner, but it’s times like these - where I spend the evening laughing and getting to see how well and how deeply people love each other - that make me feel an incredible sense of purpose in what I do. 🤍🌿

I really miss weddings. I’m so grateful to have a career that fulfills me in the way that it does. I never thought I’d have a job that I miss like this. I have the best brides who have partnered with me every step of the way. I’m so heartbroken for those of you that have been forced to make changes to your big day, but I’m really excited for the plans we’ve made together in lieu of the terrible decisions you’ve had to face with delaying your celebrations. To everyone that has ever had a wedding or photo session with me, I hope you know how loved and valued you have been to me! 🤍🌿

This has been a difficult week in many ways. All that I can say in this moment is, please:

Do your best to support the small business owners in your community that are already beginning to feel the deep financial impact of this pandemic and love on your friends and family that are having to postpone their upcoming weddings.

We’re all in this together and though this may be a virus with less aggressive symptoms in our generation, we still have a great responsibility to stay inside and protect the loved ones that came before us.

Much love, friends. ❤️
