This year's portrait session with the twins was an interesting one! Our friends were nice enough to let us use their beautiful Spanish Colonial style courtyard for our setting. Monitoring the shaky weather report we decided to stick with Saturday since the rain didn't come in the morning as indicated, and the clouds seemed to be clearing.

Of course, no more than 5 minutes before the twins arrived the dark clouds blew in and rain started pouring. Not willing to give up, we hopped in the car and drove to our destination to capitalize on a few gaps in the weather and were luckily able to get all the shots before it started dumping again.

For the last year or so, whenever I passed by this mural I thought about doing a photo shoot there. I eventually came up with the idea to do a 90’s pop-culture theme, and to stylize a wardrobe specifically for it. I reached out to a friend and pitched the idea. She said, “YES!!” and it was on!

As we set up to shoot there were hundreds of pedestrians, cars, motorcycles and bicycles passing by. Some honked. Others yelled or cheered us on with encouragement. But after maybe 10 minutes or so that noise drifted into the background, we got into a groove, and ended up having a ton of fun. Here are a few of the images we captured.

A few pictures from last week's shoot with Arahi.

As we were wrapping up she asked, "Is there anywhere else you'd like to shoot?"

She's a pretty experienced model so I thought I'd test her. I said, "let's go shoot on this bike rack". She gave me a funny look then walked over and rocked it. And that last shot became my favorite from our session.

A good reminder that it's not necessarily the setting that makes the shot, but your Subject that makes the shot. 📸

This year we did the birthday photo shoot for Quinton and Thea at Oceanside pier during golden hour. Mom & dad opted for Hawaiian theme which worked quite well.

Looking at these photos you'd never know that there are about 200 more with completely ridiculous, silly faces. 😂
