Today we are celebrating this sweet girl’s first birthday. From tiny newborn snuggles to big personality, giggles, and frosting-covered fingers… the first year always goes by faster than anyone expects.

First birthday sessions are some of my absolute favorites because they capture this moment right before toddlerhood begins... the curiosity, the silly expressions, the messy cake, and all the personality that is just starting to shine.

There is something special about siblings at newborn sessions.

The quiet pride of an older sibling. The gentle curiosity. The way they already step into their new role with so much love.

I never get tired of these sweet faces, the warm snuggles, or the quiet moments that seem to slow time just a little. There’s something incredibly special about being invited into this season. When everything is new, tender, and full of love.

Each baby brings their own tiny personality, and every session feels different, even after all these years. It’s an honor I never take for granted, and one that continues to fill my heart every single time.

These are the real moments that happen during newborn sessions. 🤍

Spit-ups, surprise diaper leaks, tiny accidents mid-snuggle… it’s all part of photographing these little ones. And honestly? It doesn’t phase me one bit.

Safety and cleanliness are never something I take lightly. Every prop, wrap, and swaddle you see is thoroughly washed and sanitized after each session so the next baby who comes into the studio is welcomed into a clean, safe space. That part is non-negotiable.

The messy moments, though? They’re nothing new. Baby p**p on my hand the other day? Yep, that happened. Don’t worry, I spared you the photo of that one 😂.

Newborn sessions aren’t about perfection. They’re about patience, flexibility, and meeting babies exactly where they are. And that’s what makes these sessions so special. Real moments, real life, and a whole lot of love wrapped up in between.

One thing I don’t always talk about here, but do talk about often during sessions, is newborn safety.

Every newborn session I photograph is completely baby-led. That means I follow your baby’s cues and never force a pose. If a position feels uncomfortable or causes fussiness, we move on. Your baby’s comfort always comes first.

Safety is just as important. During certain poses, you may see my hands supporting your baby while I’m taking the photo. Parents sometimes wonder how that will look in the final image, and I always promise the same thing, you’ll never see my hands in the finished photos.

They’re there simply to keep your baby safe. Newborns can move or shift quickly, and I would never put them at risk for the sake of a pose. In the final image, my hands are carefully edited out, leaving only your sweet, peaceful baby.

This before-and-after is a perfect example of how safety is always present, even when you don’t see it.

My calendar is already starting to fill for February, March, and early spring due dates. Just a reminder that newborn sessions are best scheduled during pregnancy so we can plan around baby’s arrival and reserve space while my availability is still open.
