Our July cover, “Boy with a Pearl Earring,” was captured by Emmalee Rathsam, M.Photog., CPP of Emmalee Rathsam Photography in Kansas City, Missouri. “My husband and I were out one evening for cocktails when I noticed Raheem, our server,” Rathsam recalls. “He was wearing one pearl earring, and I loved the way his hair was styled. I asked him if he was a model and if he would be interested in shooting with me. He was, in fact, a model.” A few weeks later, the image inspired by the painting “Girl with a Pearl Earring” by Johannes Vermeer was created.
