CPD Photography Serving the Canyon Lake/Hill Country area. I specialize in family portraits and senior portraits Welcome to CPD Photography!

My name is Chris and I've been a product designer for the last 20+ years. During that time, I've also been a photographer for friends and family taking prom pictures, senior pictures, family portraits and even an impromptu wedding. I'm excited to offer my skills to the Canyon Lake community and surrounding Hill Country area. A little about my new business:

You know how people say, "don't quit you

r day job"? Well, I'm not ;) I still enjoy designing products and I love the people I work with so my 8-5 during the week isn't going away anytime soon. That said, my new photography business specializes in outdoor, natural light photography, and I find the best times for shooting is typically late afternoon/evenings near sunset. Locations can vary depending on what you like. If you have a scenic home or property, I can come to you. Otherwise, there are tons of scenic public spaces here in the Hill Country where we can meet. We can also travel to the San Antonio or Austin areas but keep in mind that there may be an additional fee included to cover time and milage the further we go from Canyon Lake. Typical photo sessions last in the 30-60 minute range but if we run over a bit, it’s probably fine provided I don’t have another appointment. We can stay at one location or travel to as many as you'd like during your session time. Wardrobe changes can also happen as often as you'd like keeping in mind the session time and location as some places may not have rooms to change clothing. If you'd like to schedule a longer session to cover multiple locations or changes that will surpass an hour, we can do that as well. During your session, it helps to have someone with you to help combat stray hairs or clothing that get caught in the wind, help with any wardrobe changes, prop hand offs or possibly providing some shade or additional light with some reflectors I will bring. I have an assistant that I made 16 years ago that I can sometimes bring to help but she's not always available. Once your session is complete, I'll take the images back and sort through them. I'll get them cleaned up within a few days and send you a link to see the digital proofs. You can then choose up to 8 shots and I will get you full sized digital images with a release so you can take them anywhere you like to make prints. No more picking packages and trying to figure out who in the family gets the 8x10's vs the 5x7's. You can print exactly the amount and sizes you need at the quality you want. If you need help picking a place, I have several options to recommend. If you like more than the 8 included in your session, additional images can be purchased. Sound like something you'd be interested in pursuing? Give me a call or message me to talk through the details. I'd love to capture some moments with you and your family!

Welcome to a beautiful Snapshot Sunday again! I spent a little time almost every day in the little wildflower patch behind our home this week and was able to capture lots of little critters. We'll get to those over the next couple of months, but today's image is a close up of a thistle flower that's gone to seed and was covered with these little orange/red aphids of some kind. I tried to do some research and figure out exactly what they are but couldn't find anything about them. If you look closely, they have some little black spikes on their colorful bodies. They all seemed to get along with each other but what they were doing all the way up this plant, I couldn't tell. The flower is about 4' from the ground, so these little guys were a couple hundred stories up in the air to scale. Guess they aren't afraid of heights ;)

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. I had a great time with friends flying in to catch the new Mandalorian and Grogu movie. It was really nice to catch up with my buds from high school and share some time with them and family. After their departure this morning, I grabbed the macro lens and came across these two honey bees sharing some time on a thistle. There was also a giant swallow tail butterfly enjoying some time as well but it was a bit more skittish. I'll see if it comes back tomorrow before its coffee and see if its a bit more mellow. Enjoy the rest of this beautiful Snapshot Sunday!

My apologies for missing Snapshot Sunday, and welcome to Makeup Monday! We were in Port A for a long weekend of family chill time so it just wasn't in the cards to get an image out yesterday. While we were out and about on the beach, we came across this little guy that was the exact opposite of chill. This sandpiper was running all over the sand looking for little crabs to snack on and was a bit of a challenge to capture in focus. Those legs were almost as fast as a hummingbirds wings! Hope everyone had a good weekend and I'll see you on-time this Sunday!

Good morning and Happy Mother's Day to all those wonderful mamma's out there! Our forecast here in South Texas calls for "wall-to-wall sunshine"so it should be a good day to chill and do some relaxing with family and friends. If your mom isn't in town, I hope you can get a chance to chat. Heck, feel free to send them this picture of a gray hairstreak butterfly I found yesterday enjoying some of the wildflowers behind our property. Enjoy the rest of your day!

It's been a rough week for picture taking. Rain and overcast days all week long have led to us hearing our lawn grow and the pool turning a lovely shade of green. This morning was a nice change waking to a bright morning sun with plenty of dew on our fern. This shot was pre-coffee but now that we're fully caffeinated, we have the rest of our afternoon to clean out the rest of our upstairs and prep for painting! Don't be too jealous ;) Hope your plans for the rest of today's Snapshot Sunday are more exciting than ours!

My daughter got me a new hummingbird feeder for my birthday a few weeks back and they are starting to recognize me and the big lens pointing at them as not a threat. I'd like to be able to get a little closer and may have some better shots in the future on a sunny day but this one has been a nice background for my work computer this week. Enjoy the rest of your Snapshot Sunday!

It was a windy week that's been knocking plenty of these little white flowers into our pool. Unfortunately, plenty of honey bees looking to get a drink from the pool are getting their wings wet and struggle to get out. I've been heading out every couple of hours to skim the pool and regularly rescue 2-3 bees and about three time that for beetles. Once I get them out with our net, I place them on a tree to dry off and warm up, eventually watching them fly away. Hope y'all enjoy the rest of the weekend. I'll be spending the rest of my Snapshot Sunday cleaning and hitting the pool store to see about getting our water blue again after last nights storms.

It's a very overcast and rainy weekend so far and we're looking at spotty rain the rest of the day. Good thing I got out during the week during some sunny spots to find this weeks Snapshot Sunday subject. This big guy is a type of scarab beetle. His buddies were mostly black but this one was very green and very hungry. I tried to get him to smile but he was always face first into a bloom eating the pollen. The honey bees didn't seem to mind sharing and everyone else on our black cherry trees got along famously as well. Enjoy the rest of your day!

Happy Easter everyone! Hope y'all can find some time today and enjoy some rest and reflection. Spring is continuing to blossom in quite the literal sense here in South Texas as the honey bees have officially started up again. They are very good neighbors, not only to us but the little guys they share the pollen with on our flowering trees. These two didn't seem to mind sharing the flowers one bit. Have a blessed rest of this Snapshot Sunday!

Spring is still beginning to come out of hiding as our little "spruce like" tree has started popping some of its green shoots. It was looking a bit like Charlie Browns choice of Christmas tree last week but it was nice and warm and it got a good amount of water. It's exciting to see everything coming to life in the area. Hope you have a wonderful Snapshot Sunday!
