Viva Las Vegas

And now something completely different after Death Valley photos. Las Vegas is the best airport to fly in if you want to visit some of the most iconic landscape locations in US. Whenever we use fly in/out to Vegas we would book a cheap room and then leave next day without doing anything there. This time we thought of maximizing our photography mileage. So we booked one of the expensive rooms in Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. That is the only hotel in Vegas with open terraces and an expansive view of strip along with view of Bellagio Fountains. Once in the room we could not contain our excitement looking at the view. We waited for blue hour and for the fountain show to start and started clicking like crazy.

Alluring Mirage

We walked through mud and large salt crystal formations to reach this place. When we started from our car we didnt knew that there would be water here. We were just looking for undisturbed salt hexagons. When we reached half way, we started seeing a bit of shimmer far away on the salt flats. It looked like a mirage in desert. Allured by it, we kept walking toward it. Upon reaching there we could not believe our eyes that the water from recent rains was still there.

Death Valley is a perfect place to do some night photography. With one of the darkest skies in US, you can see twinkling stars with amazing clarity. So we didnt miss any chances to take some starscapes during this trip.

It's just a little rain oh yeah

Although i was complaining about rain spoiling the dune photos. But this was really a blessing in disguise. Death Valley does not get a lot of rain, only about 2 inches for the whole year. It is considered one of the driest places in the world. So when it rains it is a sight to see. Badwater Basin which is famous for its salt flats gets water logged and offers amazing photography opportunities.
