Not every session looks like what you're used to seeing from me. This one was a little outside my comfort zone, and honestly, that's part of what made it so special.
A friend of mine was looking for a very specific style of maternity photography - faceless, dramatic lighting, deep shadows, and timeless black and white. She hadn't been able to find someone to bring her vision to life, so I told her I would be willing to try if she was willing to let me experiment a little. We went into this as a collaboration and I'm so glad we did!
Even after nearly 20 years behind the camera professionally, I still have moments when I question my abilities. Moments when imposter syndrome creeps in and I wonder if I really am as good at this as I hope to be. Then I try something new, step outside of what feels familiar and create something I wasn't sure I could.
In those moments I am reminded that growth doesn't mean you've mastered everything. Sometimes it means being willing to try and surprising yourself along the way. Growth is realizing just how far you've come in 20 years and reflecting on all the lessons that brought you here.
