Organic moments are what I live for. The real laughter when your children snorts while laughing. The way you look at your husband as he swings your child overhead. The genuine smiles when you watch your family filled with love and joy and happiness.

These are the things I want to hold onto. The scrunched up noses, the secrets between siblings, the messy hands from collecting rocks. Handmade flower bouquets and sandy toes. Our children running to us with outstretched hands, wanting to share their whole world with us.

The days go by too fast and our children grow up right in front of us. I want to be present in these moments, to soak up these memories to drink up later in my life when we’re all grown. These photographs are priceless and I wouldn’t trade these experiences for anything.

Before your session, I send out a questionnaire that gives you a chance to tell me all about your family. This is so important for a number of reasons.

1. Children can be a bit reserved when they meet new people. When you share a little about their personalities and interests with me beforehand, I have a better understanding of how to connect with them during our session.
2. When I know about the things your children love and the things you love about your children, I keep a special eye out for these things during our time together.

As a mother, with a child who is growing up way too fast, I truly cherish when these details are documented during my own family sessions. I want to know your favorite things about your children right at this very moment. I want to know what makes them laugh and smile, so I can encourage them to do the things that make them laugh and smile. I want your photos to reflect this time in their lives so that you’ll never forget any of these moments.

I’ve been working on updating all my guides recently, which means I’ve gotten to go back through all these wonderful sessions that I may or may not have shared. One of my absolute favorite parts of this job is watching your families grow throughout the years. When families come back to me year after year, I get to see your children’s personalities bloom more each time. During the planning process, I ask you to share things you want to remember from this time in your children’s lives in the hopes that I can witness these little details and freeze them for a lifetime.
