One of my most popular suggestions to new and repeat clients is to strongly consider a summer session over a spring or fall session. Why? Here are a few key reasons:

*Kids are out of school and academic activities are typically are over; so the vibe is already more chill and relaxed

*Longer days and stronger (and more consistent) sunsets! Fall and spring (in Boston at least) have come with more rain and less predictable weather

*Less sickness!

*You can wear looser and more comfortable clothing

*Easier to reschedule a session!

*More location options! Summer allows families to pick a beach session (my go to spot is Nantasket)

One of the best parts about this job is experiencing different ā€œaesthetic erasā€ that come with technical and personal growth. I’m absolutely loving doing more and more urban family sessions—the USS Constitution Naval Shipyard in Charlestown was an underused gem to explore last night! Thanks to Chenchen Hensz Photography for suggesting this spot! It’s always a massive boost in confidence when a fellow photographer chooses to hire you more than once šŸ™šŸ½

What you’ll notice about my newborn style:

*I am definitely on the ā€œdark and moodyā€ side of editing as I love contrasting colors + using shadows to create a tender mood

*I love capturing up close shots of parents holding, nuzzling, and kissing their babies…these are the moments I miss the most

*Though parents don’t typically ask for these shots, I like capturing as many ā€œsideā€ or ancillary details as I can - including the colors of blankets, bottles, cribs, changing tables, the messiness of your space…I want people to not only remember what their baby looked like at this stage, but what their general lives looked like too

One of my biggest challenges as a photographer is limiting my portfolio galleries to just the 30-50 recommended images to ensure I’m only showing my best and most accurate work. In the 10+ years since creating my website and narrowing in on my specific artsy style, I’ve never been able to truncate my galleries…they still contain way too many images as after editing a new session I’m always eager to add more as I fall in love with a new set and feel a sense of loss taking some beloved ones down just to make space for others. Here are just a *smidgeon* of some favorite newborn images I removed today to keep with not overwhelming prospective clients with too many pictures šŸ™ƒšŸ˜«

I have too much to say about this indoor/backyard session I did today! To say the least, I wish I could do sessions just like this one every week - there’s no bad way to capture love and chaos together. Too many favorites to only have one post from this set!

As time passes, the more and more I feel the weight (or lack thereof) of not being able to hold my ā€œbabiesā€ in the same way I did even just a few years ago. Though it’s a gradual adaptation, there is a subtle grief when I stop and imagine this early phase of motherhood. One of my favorite physics concepts is the ā€œblock universeā€ theory. It’s the idea that time has a fourth dimension where all moments—the past, present, and future—exist simultaneously. In this sense, time is ā€œflatā€ and everything in the past and future are simultaneously present. This way, grief is tethered to joy, excitement, and deep gratitude for an experience that is never really gone and has yet to happen ✨
