Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Lucius perform live for the second time in Des Moines at Franklin Middle School! Lucius & Rubblebucket were the soundtracks of my hard/sad/confusing first year(s) of college, you know the broken heart I'm-too-old phase... here are some sweet lines from their first album Wildewoman in the song Two of Us on the Run
Our favorite parts are what we'll keep
Ornamental parts of love and parts of memories so/
Everything else has room to grow
'Cause in better light
Everything changes
In better light, everything does change... as did my interaction with the band this show! Emily (my pal) & I, decked in glitter, are confused as we pull into the parking lot of a middle school. There are many parked cars but all is unperturbed besides; it may as well be the opening of the spring musical, but in the distance ( !! ) I spy two longish haired, older-T-shirt-wearing guys with straight-legged dark jeans and tasteful-ish shoes; they're smoking f**s: a smoking gun! Spied: Two Brooklyn Brothers in Suburban Des Moines. We parked the car and walked toward the dudes and ask for the entrance to the concert and they point. We joke and say we know there's a concert because of that sweet faded-look! Haha!
After the openers, when Lucius came on stage Emily & I are transfixed by Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig in their fits, but as our eyes adjust to the light the silhouette of the guitarist, Peter Lalish, and drummer, Dan Molad, seem familiar, too familiar...the dudes out front! We were stunned (no way) and were extra proud of the laughs we freed earlier; what a power-up lol Makes sense, good humor and good music go hand-in-hand.
