Fine Art Friday feels like the perfect way to start counting down to my solo exhibition opening next week at Art Hub in Cambridge.
So here’s the first image in the series.
A sunrise on the water with my dad and son — because apparently fishing at sunrise is a perfectly reasonable way to start the day.
The older I get, the more I realize these are the moments I’m drawn to photographing most. Not just the big milestones, but the quiet in-between moments that feel like memories while you’re still living them.

I don’t just photograph people, products, or spaces.

I photograph the feeling behind them.

The nervous excitement before a senior session begins.
The warmth of a family gathered together.
The quiet atmosphere of a thoughtfully created space.
The pride someone feels building a business they love.
The little details that make a moment, place, or brand feel personal and meaningful.

Because photography is about more than documenting what something looks like.

It’s about capturing what it feels like to be there.

That emotional connection — the atmosphere, the personality, the story — is what I’m always looking for when I pick up my camera. ❤️

There’s something so quintessentially small town Midwest about Memorial Day in Cambridge.

Flags lining Main Street.
Kids waiting for candy along the curb.
The marching band echoing through downtown.
Veterans waving as the community applauds.
Neighbors gathering shoulder to shoulder year after year.

It’s one of those traditions that reminds you how important community really is.

No matter how busy life gets, it’s always beautiful to see so many people come together — not just to celebrate the start of summer, but to honor, remember, and share these moments together.

These are the kinds of moments that make small towns feel special. ❤️

Life has been a little full lately.
I’ve been buried in client galleries, prepping for my exhibition opening on 6/5, helping at Baird’s during the pre-Memorial Day rush…
and somewhere in there, testing out my new sports photography setup while cheering on one kid and snuggling the overtired sibling.
One thing I’ve realized recently is that a lot of you know me from completely different parts of life.
Some of you found me through photography.
Some through Baird’s.
Some through the Cambridge community.
Some because our kids crossed paths somewhere along the way.
So now I’m curious—how do you know me?

May is hEDS & HSD Awareness Month 💜
Most people don’t realize that I live with HSD (Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder).
It impacts more parts of my daily life than most people see — pain, fatigue, instability, and constantly adapting to what my body needs from day to day.
But it has also shaped the way I see people.
It’s taught me patience, empathy, and the beauty that exists in imperfection, resilience, and softness.
Maybe that’s part of why I’m drawn to photographs like this one — reminders that things can still be beautiful, even after being bent, weathered, or changed.

The weird thing about being a photographer is that I’m usually the one behind the camera — not in front of it.

But as I continue building K Welsh Photography, I’ve realized people don’t just connect with the photos… they connect with the person creating them too.

So here’s a little more of me. 😊

I’m Kim — photographer, small business owner, creative brain behind K Welsh Photography, co-owner of Baird’s Artisan Fiberglass & Upholstery, mom to two very active kiddos, professional overthinker, and the person who will absolutely hype you up during your session if you’re nervous about being in front of the camera.

My photography style has always been less about perfect poses and more about connection, personality, and the moments in between.

The laugh after the awkwardness.
The genuine smile.
The quiet confidence that shows up when someone finally relaxes.

That’s the stuff I love capturing most.

(With my husband stepping behind the camera for a change so I could actually be in front of it for once 😅)
