It's instinct, right?

You booked a fall photo session with the fam, the pumpkins are right there, and you'd like one picture where she's looking up.

So the minute she picks up that wooly worm, it just comes tripping off your tongue. Put that thing DOWN!

But what if ... you didn't?

A kid holding a wooly worm will stand stiller than any kid I have ever asked to stand still. (I have asked a lot of kids over the years.)

This little girl completely forgot I was there. The lady with the camera was gone. It was just her and her new friend. When she was done, she set him on a rock and crouched down to watch him go.

They won't always stop for wooly worms.

The photos let you hold on to when they did.

If you just looked at the calendar, realized it's almost October, and said one of those word you try NOT to say in front of the kids ... 👋.

Your day's about to get a whole lot better.

Winter sessions at home, baking your family's favorite cookies, are the best-kept secret on my calendar!

Some of my absolute favorite family photos have 0 orange leaves. What they do have is little hands covered in flour, a kid licking a spoon and a family having the sweetest time together.

Missed booking for fall? November and December are open ... so bring on Grandma's recipe!

🔮 Can you guess which of these photo from Sara and Ryan's wedding absolutely stole my heart?

Hint: it's not the traditional shot, and the person who made it my favorite wasn't technically at the wedding.

(That's Sara's grandma on the phone screen ... FaceTiming in all the way from Portugal!).

I wanted to say something fun and pithy here, but the truth is, I'm in such awe that I'm (almost) speechless.

My beautiful friend Katelyn Horton and her husband Chris allowed me to capture the newest member of their family this week in the hours after her arrival.

What you see is a beautiful baby girl. What I see is a room so filled with love that I felt like I was standing inside a giant hug.

I mean, sure, you COULD make your kids stand up straight, look at the photographer and force a smile.

OR you could hire the photographer who's going to follow you on a frog catching adventure in the backyard.

You know, the one who's crouched in the grass getting the shot of your son's face the second the frog lands in Dad's hand? The one who's not going to interrupt the moment your kid decides this slimy little thing is the most important discovery of his entire life?

Which memory are you going to pick?

Ahem. I have a confession to make.

During Heather Marie Nagell and Meghan's ring warming ceremony, I ignored the brides completely ... for a good 5 minutes.

he rings were making their way down a red thread through every guest in the crowd. I was busy capturing a granddaughter and her grandparents connecting, a mother of a bride whispering secrets into the rings, a brother-in-law of a bride cradling the rings close to his heart ... and the daughter of the brides holding tight to the string as she watched her moms say I do.

This is what I mean when I say documentary wedding photographer.

Did I capture all the other big moments? The first kiss, the couple cuddling, the list of portraits?

Of course. But there's no shot list on earth with a line that reads "the exact face someone makes when they're literally holding your marriage in their hands."

Question for the married people out there: What's the moment your photographer caught that you didn't even know happened until you saw it?

📣 New requirement! 📣

Several senior sessions turned into sibling sessions this year, and they taught me something:

I barely have to work when there's a sibling standing off-camera cracking you up.

So I'm thinking siblings are now mandatory for every senior session. Work smarter, not harder, right?
