"Sparky" the famous resident Vermilion Flycatcher is always a pleasant sight and welcome whenever I visit back here, and rightfully so with those gorgeous crimson plumage dazzling whenever any bit of sunlight dappers his coat.

Although more common and seen in the Southern US and Southern California (in addition to most of Mexico), these beautiful flycatchers always demand attention and are full of personality to top it off.

They were so compelling to me, I came back and frequent these spots to document them a little more including this past couple months during their breeding periods.

This lone white pelican stood still and embraced the warm sunset light, wings spread to dry after wading across the lake.

Despite this being at a busy suburban park, this was quite a sight to see and appreciate such a beautiful creature in the midst of all the activity and noise at this crowded park.

I wanted to capture the feeling of calm and serenity of this pelican despite the surrounding busy environment, let me know what you think!

Laying low on the grass under the soft morning glow, I spotted 2-3 families of canadian geese with their chicks, I set myself a good 10+ meters away with the intention of observing and just taking in the wonders of breeding/nesting season like this with the new seasons' fledglings/chicks.

I then realized how ethereal the soft morning light was as the geese family and chicks waddled about and traversed under the canopies; the light was trickling through the foliage above creating pockets of shade and magnificent lighting throughout.

Father duty - this busy Vermillion Flycatcher and its mate were busy feeding various worms and other bugs non stop before sunset time.

Seeing the parents' astounding accuracy and consistency when catching bugs for their chick's next meals was a beautiful sight to witness.

This was captured back in April, the chicks are fully fledged and moved out of their nest, it was one of those circle of life moments I am so grateful to experience countless times observing wildlife.

Hidden among the dense forage, I was elated to finally spot California Quails (Callipepla californica) in the wild, the state bird of California.

I've always heard they can be a bit harder to spot as they like to keep low to the deep brush and are quite skittish, their distinct calls reminds me of mini bubbles popping 😁

These game birds inhabit the Western US states and Baja California, their iconic head plume and blue-grey chest feathers for males along with the scale-like patterns of their lower chest were spectacular to see in person.

This trio of White-Faced Ibises slowly meandered throughout the marsh, all within an arm's reach as they scuttled about.

I came across this scene during sunset and wanted to capture the soft sunset glow illuminating the wetland grasses in the background with this centerpiece of this trio in their envrionment, this was the 1st time I saw ibises together since I usually see them solo so that was quite interesting for me 😁

Perched still as a statue, this lone Acorn Woodpecker was just a couple inches above our heads as we walked the trails back to our car at sunset.

This was the closest I've came to a woodpecker as unfazed and unbothered it appeared with hikers and other passerbys in it's area.

I pointed it out to my othee photographer friend and he couldn't believe how close and calm it was 😁

Silently scanning the vast open bodies of water below, this Belted Kingfisher strikes with intent, precision, and velocity, just like its namesake.

I had the pleasure of scouting a local wetlands and observing this resident kingfisher work its magic as it patiently scans for its next meal.

Meandering throw a warm, sunlit meadow in the late afternoon sun, this mule deer was a pleasant sight after having my fair share of bird photography these past months.

Being in a dense area like SoCal, I've always wanted to capture more mammals and the abundance of fauna in the Sacramento region did not disappoint. I've loved every bit of my birding journey and getting to really understand each bird I ID and photograph, I'm keen on doing the same for many mammals species on my "to see in the wild" list.
