A different content for you today, but something deeply personal that must be voiced.
We stand for humanity. Our business always has and always will. One of the beautiful aspects of small businesses is that they are so personal. When you interact, hire, message, etc. with small businesses like ours, you are dealing directly with the sole people behind the brand. We are not owned or dictated by larger corporations doing business under a different name:
It's just us.
We lead human lives impacted by the world around us. We believe that everyone has the right to know where the businesses they patronize stand. We stand for humanity, for human rights for everyone, for equality and equity, for positive social change, and empathy. None of us lead perfect lives, but learning and growing beyond what is outside your immediate household, community, and country is vital. This isn't political. No party is perfect. No single person will get it all right, but it is up to all of us to be better and do better.
We have white privilege, plain and simple, but this is a minority owned business. We are q***r with black children, and history has taught us that hatred starts by dividing. When a group comes for one minority, they are coming for them all. We do not disillusion ourselves that our race will prevent us from discrimination, because we have faced it before.
For those who are scared right now, we understand; just know that so many are standing for you. We will hold the line until you are ready to join us. Positive change is coming if we all come together and stay engaged. For those who will undoubtedly criticize us for this, we encourage you to genuinely search yourself for why. Search for viewpoints different than yours, those outside your religion, race, state, country, and instead of casting immediate judgement take the time to quietly listen. There are many who are still open and willing to answer questions on subjects you don't understand or direct you to resources that have those answers. Take advantage of that and practice active listening.
We applaud the large companies taking a stand for their employees and as a beacon of hope for the people. We don't have the following of corporations such as Costco and Ben and Jerry's, but if we give even one person a flicker of light to know they are seen and heard, we're good with that.
Sincerely with the deepest love,
One Small Business for Big Change
