I had this really cool revelation while being in the Word a few days ago. You may have known this already but if you didn't, I hope it brings you peace and joy.
I was so confused in Romans 9, this scripture in particular. [19] Well then, you might say, “Why does God blame people for not responding? Haven’t they simply done what he makes them do?” Because above that he's talking about one's that were destined for destruction and that we are among the selected. But then in chapter 10 he says that everyone has a chance at salvation. It seemed like he was contradicting himself. But I know scripture never contradicts itself.
Then it occurred to me, Paul isn't talking about predestination like it seems he is. The ones that were destined for destruction were because all they had to fall back on when their faith was weak was the law. They tried to make themselves right with God by the law. Instead of by faith. But when Paul says we are among the selected that's because it's after Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the law therefore when our faith is weak we don't have to fall back on the law to save us because Jesus has already saved us by dying on the cross.
Also towards the end of chapter 9 he brings up Isaiah 8 where it's said God has placed a rock in Jerusalem which they will stumble over. The law is the rock. When the law brings light to your flaws you will stumble. But it was an attempt to draw them near to Him. You wouldn't put your faith in the thing that caused you to stumble. God was callinf them to put their gaith in Him. But they didn't and that's where they failed.
Romans 10:9-11 NLT
[9] If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. [10] For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. [11] As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”
