Ten dogs. One camera. No direction, no marks to hit, no second takes.

Working dogs and family dogs. A search team in the timber, a K9 on the line, sled dogs who would rather be running, and one old lab who has clearly earned his spot on the concrete.

They give you everything in the first frame. That is the entire job.

Happy National Dog Day.

A great event deserves more than proof that it happened.

This week at an event in Edina, our job was not simply to photograph a room full of people. It was to notice the moments inside the moment.

The conversations. The expressions. The people connecting across a room. The details someone worked hard to get right. The pieces of the story you cannot recreate once everyone goes home.

That is the difference between covering an event and telling its story.

At SamuelJon Media, we create photography and film that help organizations remember
what happened, show people what it felt like, and communicate why it mattered.

If your company, ministry, organization, or event has a story worth telling, call us today.

It is the middle of the night and I cannot sleep, so I am writing this through tears.

Today was Manny's Day. Every seventh of August, we pour out eighty-seven acts of kindness in honor of our son, born on 8/7.

I thought tonight would be tears of gratitude. Instead I am undone by something I did not expect to admit.

There were moments today when I had to muster the kindness.

On his day. The day built entirely out of kindness. My heart was heavy in ways this year has made heavier, and before I could go give it in his name, I had to go somewhere quiet in myself and get ready to give what would not come on its own.

In the moment, that felt like failure.

At 3am, weeping, I am seeing it completely differently. And it has to do with a broken world, a groaning creation, and the one thing a father is built to do that I could not do for my son.

I wrote the whole thing down tonight. It is the most honest thing I have ever put on this page.

Every act of kindness in Manny's name is a refusal to let the wrong win.

Today is a day we affectionately call Manny’s Day in the Rodriguez house. And it's a long day we LOVE waking up to... now.

Eighteen years ago, our son Manny was born, lived briefly, and changed us permanently.

Every year, we try to mark his day with . Not because it fixes anything. Not because grief needs a campaign. But because love still looks for a way to move outward.

This year, the invitation is still the same: 87 acts of kindness in Manny’s honor.

It can be small. Free. Extravagant.

Buy someone’s coffee. Send the text. Leave a generous tip. Pray for a family by name. Encourage someone who has been quietly carrying more than they show. Notice someone who may feel unseen.

Manny’s life was brief, but his name continues to shape the way we see people, the way we listen, and the way we believe stories should be honored.

SamuelJon Media exists, in part, because I believe names matter. Families matter. Memory matters. And love deserves more than a passing mention.

So today, we are setting aside the day to remember our son by helping kindness move through the world in his name.

If you want to join us, read more, or simply follow along with the beautiful ways people are honoring Manny today, you can visit the Facebook event here:

One small act. One meaningful gesture. One more reminder that a short life can still leave a long echo.

Manny, your life still speaks.

And we still love you.

If you watched Seat at the Table, you already know this bear.

Slide six. Saturday morning, buckled into the passenger seat of a 1980 Z28, driven across the county, parked in a lot full of strangers with the window down so anybody walking by could see.

The onesie carries his name. The little wooden disc reads eleven months.

James Jerome Po***ck.

That’s who James’ Triumph is named for, and that is what his family does now. They don’t leave him home. He gets a seat, a seatbelt, and a spot in the third row next to a black Trans Am, and his mom and dad stand there all afternoon fielding questions about paint and horsepower while the real answer sits right there in the window for anyone paying attention.

That is not a small thing to ask of yourself on a Saturday. They do it anyway. Every time.

Thank you to the Let Freedom Ride crew for building a lot where that’s welcome. To the volunteers running registration in the heat. To every owner who popped a hood for the twentieth time and told it again like it was the first.

James’ Triumph is doing real work. So is Manny’s Fund. Links in bio. Go be useful.
