I walked into the BLCK Market () in the Buffalo Soldier Museum () not knowing that I would find one of the best in Houston. You'll need a good couple of hours to see everything. The patrons were there in healthy numbers, a testament of how good they're doing over here.

It was in the time shortly following the death of Nipsey Hussle. The first thing I saw when I walked in was a commemorative in his honor. The sense of family and community was all around. Laughter, smiles, music, all the good things were going on this evening.

I caught up with a couple . Peachie () creates fantastical imagery there were so many customers t buying I had to wait for my turn to shoot and I was thinking about how much time it takes to put these presentations together. Artists have to CREATE from nothing.

Musician, poet, and artist - Troi A. A. (.c.g.b) had mixed media visual art and original books for sale. all around, there were so many people eager to share their stories

Roshawn () he's got the professional pose game down 😹, and an even more important story to tell - that's it.

Live music - The Aux Band () and to everyone who got on the mic, the messages were speaking positivity, unity. Finding ways to come together. Thanks everyone 🙏🏾💯

(if anyone knows the artist who did the mural please comment/tag so I can update)

leftovers from a Facebook post but I think the dog part ended up being fun so here it is. 😹
someone once asked me, "Frankie why do you always use the laughing cat emoji? Aren't you a dog person?"

To which I replied, "yes I am a dog person. But there's no laughing dog emoji. And I also have a cat now, so it's okay."

this isn't my best but it's the dog poem I have right now.

is trending! I'm Shooting for @ the 2019 For the Love of Art ( ) main stage, crouched in a corner covering the shining poets and . Best seat in the house. I took the lesson on this shooting position from Max the cat (actual cat), who has a great origin story (pulled from an abyss, fighting for survival), too much of a story for right now. What learned from her was the art of waiting to strike - the .

Ready to pounce & I'm in awe. , an advocate for every artist, is holding session with everyone finely tuned in. Anticipating the climax, I huddled myself into a position... and knocked over Elizabeth's () easel-mounted display - completely with the chunky part of my butt! We're at an event that celebrates the life of the poet, the work of the artist & my wasn’t slowing anything down though! heh, I was embarrassed but we kept on shooting it.

There was candy, chocolates, , kebabs & other served up right by the art. The artists were happy to for everyone. The atmosphere was like a family reunion, but a GOOD family reunion . Especially great for the kids who were there, positive examples from everyone - It was busy for me, hectic even, but I knew on that day we’d all put on a good presentation for everyone.

Sad Renee Writes, took the main stage setting a new pace; she connected with her sisters serving them introspection & a little self reflection, for everyone a life lesson. New words we all needed to hear. Any heads in attendance can attest, & I can't tell you how proud I was to be there. We've fully entered into the next season for the new

How did I end up here? Camping. Camping. Who camps anymore?

It was one of those activities you would remember from an old movie or something. movies, maybe one of the many National Lampoon's with Chevy Chase. But who lives that life anyway? I didn't ever really. The first time I went camping was in Austin, Ink's Lake. We just showed up; the Trini in me brought an 18-inch "Undertaker Warrior" Bowie knife - just in case.

Skip ahead a decade and I'm out of Texas and having a coffee at the coffee shop in the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center in Iraq, fantasizing about all the normal "American" activities I would do once I got home. Somehow I got turned on to this podcast. This guy, Skip, just decided to make a camping podcast and do it all by himself. Snapped his magic radio fingers and here I am 8 thousand miles away learning about tent selection. It was good for me to get that piece of home to look forward to. A few more years yet and I find myself plodding through the forests of Houston.

S/O to my for taking me there for over 30 years

The weather made for an I-love-Houston kind of day. Take the bus with a smile kind of day.
This was the last Sunday before elections. Made it to the Cultural and Event Center - I have to stop now and tell you I could spend all day shooting here. cultural artwork all around.
The Arena - Business owners were proudly demonstrating their products and tending to customers. Textiles, accessories, jewelry, health products, big lists of merchandise. All while from were covering it all with live interviews. DJ Shep set the mood. I was encouraged by it all. Is this what the looks like? I had thought about that a lot. Business owners in find a way to bring their service, craft, expertise, whatever their value is - and they just make it pop. You can have it if you want it! . I loved what I was seeing. S/O to , , and For putting the pieces together!

Entrepreneurs all around. There were fashion retailers, educators, culinary delights, etc... Additionally, an amalgamation of artisans, activists, and authors advertised an assortment of applied accomplishments.

has been a problem. Pure Justice Director of Ops Roshawn Evans () was there & expounded on the worst problems we face in the . Of course we didn't know it then, but just two days later the would sweep the midterm in with some making its way onto the bench! How much stigma and bias has worked its way into and affected our lives as the result of so-called ? A phrase I'd heard so often on election night was " " with and without the Hashtags. I can't tell you how high my hopes are for the work everyone is doing - after elections, too.
