It’s been eight years since I first picked up a camera and started taking photos, refining my skills and eventually launching Essjay Photo. When I think back, I must have crossed paths with over 100 dogs and their owners, each with unique personalities and stories, each one changing lives for the better, because that’s what dogs do.
This has always been more than a hobby. It’s been a calling. And while these moments are often filled with joy, days like today remind us just how fast life moves.
It brings me great sadness to learn that Mr. Kyle, owned by , has made his way over the rainbow bridge.
Kyle was my very first client. Stoic, still, and gentle. He never needed to be posed because he simply was perfect. As I grew my skills and experimented with new ideas, Kyle was always there, ready to jump in the water or hang out on an icy January day without hesitation.
I owe a lot to Kyle. When my Larkin had major knee surgery at just one year old, Kyle forged a bond with her that I’ll never forget. He became her best friend, her calming presence during rehab, and the shoulder she rested her head on after long days.
I’ve never met a dog like Kyle, and I probably never will. His eyes bared his soul, carrying an expression that felt almost human. I loved capturing that. Kyle was truly one of a kind, just as your best friends are one of a kind.
So today, I encourage you to hold your dogs a little closer to your heart. Because life moves fast, and our dogs are here for only a chapter, but in that time, they give us companionship, comfort, and love without limits. Because that’s what dogs do. And that’s exactly what Kyle did.
I’ll miss you, Ky.
