Introducing the Free Rein Collection: a monthly set of equine images from my archive, free to download and use on your social media.

Every image was taken by me, with a real camera, of real horses. No AI, no catch. Just a photo credit. πŸ˜‡

My friend Jessica and I were right in the middle of a photoshoot of me with my horses last weekend when it started to rain. We were just on the edge of a storm system and could see that if we just waited a few minutes, the rain would pass. Not only did that happen, but it left the most vivid rainbow in the sky above my farm!

I traded places with Jessica and posed my golden girl, Maisy, in front of it! She truly is my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! 🌈

This has been on my heart for a while. ❀️ Swipe through...

Just in case it's not obvious, the images on slides 1-6 are AI-generated. The rest are real. How does that feel to you?

Have you noticed this happening a lot in your feed? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Save this and share it with someone who needs to see it.

One of my favorite things about doing photography when I travel is creating unique work for my stock library.

My visit to Wellington, FL, in March gave me a lot of great material, and some of my favorite frames came from time spent with Alison, a professional groom whose kind, careful, passionate approach to her work and the horses she cares for is something you can feel in the images.

Watching her was a good reminder of why I love photographing the people around horses, not just the horses themselves. The relationship and the small, genuine acts of care that happen outside the show ring are some of the hardest content to find in the big stock libraries. And it's exactly what equine brands need.

Alison put it so well: "Being a groom is so much more than a job for me, horses have become my life. When you care about the details, and go the extra mile for your horses, it shows not just in competition results but their happiness. That is the true reward."

I was thinking the other day about how much I still love it. I still love photography.

I love the thrill of trying to create an incredible image that will stop people in their tracks and make them feel something.

I still love the beautiful places that photography takes me, and the amazing people it brings into my life.

This is my job, yes, but more than that, it's a passion that I've turned into a career that's lasted for over 20 years. I still love it, and I can't imagine a day when I won't. ❀️

It's and I'm bringing back one of my favorites! I was mesmerized by the glow from the strong backlight in these images, but later realized that it was due to a large amount of dust inside my lens (which cost a pretty penny to fix!) 🫣

I'll hopefully never be able to achieve this look again, unless by another means. πŸ˜†

I just launched a refreshed website, and I'm very excited to share it with you! πŸŽ‰

When I started this process (and oh my, it's quite a process!), I thought I needed a whole new design, but as I dove in, I realized what I really needed was to get clearer about what I wanted to say and who I was saying it to.

My old site was mostly just a portfolio of my best work, but it didn't really communicate about the problems I solve for clients, my values as a photographer and horsewoman, and what makes me uniquely skilled for the work I do.

My site now reflects the three things that matter most to me as a commercial equine photographer:

1️⃣ The horse comes first. Every shoot I do starts with the horse's comfort and well-being.

2️⃣ Real photography matters. Every image on my site was made with a camera, with real horses and real horse people.

3️⃣ I know this world because I live it. I'm a horse owner and care for three of my own every day at home in Minnesota.

A few other new website content I'm excited about:

πŸŽ‰ Client project pages for the brands I've had the honor of working with: Tribute Equine Nutrition, Farnam, Boehringer Ingelheim, Nutrena, Triple Crown Feeds, and more. Each one tells the story of what we created together.

πŸŽ‰ New landing pages for my Stock Library, Photographer Education, and Fine Art, with more detailed information about these areas of my business.

If you're a brand in the equine nutrition, veterinary, or horse care space, or if you just love horses and beautiful photography, I'd love for you to take a look around. 😊

EquiCapture is back, and it's been completely rebuilt from the ground up, so it's faster and works fully offline for core features. And because it no longer relies on a third-party service to run, what happened can't happen again. πŸ™Œ

If you have automatic updates turned on, you should already have the latest version. If not, head to the App Store or Google Play and force an update. Some Android users are not seeing the update yet, if that happens to you, try again later today!

New to EquiCapture? It's a tool built specifically for equestrian photographers with posing inspiration, horse sounds to get those ears-up expressions, tutorials, and more. One-time purchase, $34.99. No subscriptions, no recurring fees.

I have been working hard on a website refresh and restoring my mobile app EquiCapture. Both are super close to going live, but have been monstrous projects!

And then I broke the ring finger on my left hand. 😣

So, things are moving slowly, and I've basically dropped off social media.

Here's a pretty horse photo to keep my feed active while I push through life's challenges. πŸ˜†

Two recent magazine covers featuring my photos...

The first is from my friend Samantha's farm, one of my favorite locations for photography because of her beautiful property, horses, and her generous heart.

I thought I was done shooting for the day, but there was still soft sunset light washing across this field. A few gorgeous grey quarter horses were peacefully grazing. At one point, they came trotting towards us and that's when I captured this image.

The second is from my friend Carol's Whispering Meadows Morgan Farm in 2020, when I fell in love with the breed. πŸ₯°

It was only a few short years later when one of her lovely Morgans gave birth to my heart horse, Maisy. Spending evenings with Carol in her pasture with Morgan babies has become one of my favorite things to do!

It's really special to me not only to see images like these on magazine covers, but also that the horses belong to dear friends. ❀️
