I am Melissa, and I have been in the photography industry for 15 years. I studied first through the New York Institute of Photography and then in college. I left college early, choosing to learn with a much more hands on approach as I traveled and eventually headed into the world of wedding photography after assisting with several small studios. Throughout this time I continued working on personal

projects to keep my mind fresh and my eyes open. I'd also been photographing musicians and models as a way to keep evolving as trends did. I shot more weddings than I could count before I put down my camera for a year and reapproached my career when I found myself doing more and more custom portraits and photography for children's boutiques, which then led me to family and children's portraits. Though I always found weddings to be fulfilling my primary focus has become custom photography. It's such a reward to me when a woman who's maternity session I've shot becomes excited for me to photograph their precious newborn and when families allow me to document their growth. Working with children can be challenging, at times, but always leave me with a sense of accomplishment when I've created an image that will hang on their family's walls and even become a part of an heirloom album. "I dont have a history of having the best of luck. But I definitely lucked out when a friend contacted me and asked if I would be interested in having my youngest son model for Melissa. I was extremely impressed with her work. After that brief meeting I knew I would have to hire her to shoot my next set of personal pictures. Her laid back and relaxed persona was unlike anything I have ever experienced in a "big box" photography studio. My older boys actually did what she requested of them and even when the youngest one didn't, she figured out a way to get good shots out of his foolishness! I recently saw a set of maternity shots Melissa took. She captured the very essence of everything beautiful that comes with pregnancy. Makes me want to have another one myself!
