If I could shout it from the rooftops, I would beg you to GET PHOTOGRAPHED WITH THOSE YOU LOVE MOST! Especially your aging parents!
Just as you are–
With or without makeup
With or without losing a pound
With or without a care about what to wear.
How? Shower and style your hair, maybe add a pop of lipstick, put on something that makes you feel happy. Just wear neutrals or your favorite color. That’s it!
I’ll even take care of all of that for you, if you want a custom session with hair and make and wardrobe consult, but you really can just come as you are.
You are perfect just as you are.
It’s the connection and experience of being photographed with your mom or dad that I SO want you to have.
Why? Because tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone. Especially our aging parents. Schedule a photo shoot with them. I promise you– you will treasure it for the rest of your life and hand them down to your children and grandchildren.
I know this now to the depths of my soul. And I’m so grateful I have made portraits of both of my parents and with my dad last fall.
My dad was 82 when we made these. We are having an early birthday party for him next week that will include family pictures.
I’ve practiced what I preach the past decade. I always say, “some photographs you can’t make again”. I regularly photograph and PRINT WHAT MATTERS! I hope you will too.
I learned that when we lost my sister SUE to cancer at 43. We did not get professional family pictures made and it will forever be one of my biggest regrets.
I recall like yesterday a few years later visiting a friend’s parent’s home and seeing 3 huge pieces of wall art of his sister that they also lost the same year to cancer. One of her, one of her with her husband and 2 sons and one of her with her parents and brother and sister. I saw those gorgeous pieces of wall art and thought they were the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.
I wondered why I hadn’t thought to do this? I wasn’t a professional photographer yet in 2007 when we lost Sue and we were busy those final 10 months going to chemo and radiation.
Don’t wait for a cancer diagnosis. Get in the frame NOW with those you cherish.
Consider yourself reminded as I shout from the rooftop: GET IN THE PHOTO WITH YOUR LOVED ONES.
