Tasty Sights

Tasty Sights Tasty Sights features Arun Victor's food photography. While the foods here are his own creations, Arun also provides photography services. Click. See. Taste.

We eat with our eyes first. Such is the irony of food - although it aims at pleasing one’s sense of taste the most, our palates are almost always the last to actually experience that pleasure. The aroma of a delicious curry catches the nose, the searing sizzle of a porterhouse on a grill whispers into the ear, and the soft pull of cotton candy gives our fingertips a prelude to the symphony that is

about to fill our mouths. And that brings me to the fifth sense, one that Tasty Sights is mad about as far as food is concerned - sight. We so often subconsciously taste with our eyes even before taking that first bite. That initial “taste” can be a powerful thing, whether by influencing what you order off of a menu at a restaurant, or simply wanting “what s/he’s eating”. Using my passion, nay, obsession for photographing food, I’d like to share that taste with you.

A Mecca of meat. A beefy oasis in an otherwise meatless desert. Or maybe just a festive gathering of people higher up in the food chain. This is Iftar. Perhaps not in the puristic sense, and yes, somewhat commercial, but a celebration nonetheless. While you have to get to Mosque Road in Frazer Town, Bangalore during Ramadan to experience the aromas, tastes, and the vibrant culture, I'll leave you with some of the sights here.

Elegance in simplicity. There is something very satisfying about a down-to-earth burger, without the fancies.

And to complete the meal - a glass of Hibiki Suntory - a rather spicy, and full-bodied Japanese blend. My friendly flight attendant was happy to oblige my request to have the bottle brought to my seat for the photo.

As a food photography enthusiast, one of the things I'm naturally drawn to with premium cabin travel is the presentation of the dining service. And Japan's ANA delivered on this flight from Narita to Chicago. The only thing warmer on board was the care and courtesy of the flight staff. I hope you enjoy these. Please click on them individually for detailed descriptions.
