The Book of Psalms: A Wonderful Way to Reflect Daily

Psalm 34:8-10 “8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! 9 Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints! There is no want to those who fear Him. 10 The young lions lack and suffer hunger; But those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.”

Verse 8-I was reminded the other day of how beautiful a flower is. But when we consider that beauty do we consider the beauty of the Creator Himself. The One Who created the flowers is definitely worthy of our trust. Verse 9-Do we fear the Lord as belivers in a scared of being struck down? I sincerely hope not. But what we do is fear letting Him down in light of what He has done for us. He loves so much He gave. I personally don’t want to do anything that will keep me from fellowship from Him, that’s a daily decision but He gives me what I need to do it when I simply choose obedience. Verse 10-People sometimes think they may miss out by following Christ but the truth is there is not really anything to miss outside of Him. If we intend to spend forever with Him in eternity where we will have need of nothing then why spend any more time than necessary worrying about this stuff here. I know easier said than done.

Psalm 34:4-7 “4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. 5 They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. 6 This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. 7 The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.”

Verse 4,5-First thing that stands out here is the first word, 'they'. Who are they? Read the previous verse and you realize the 'they' are those who seek the Lord. So those who look to Him are radiant? Have you ever been around someone who knows the Lord and they had this thing going on that you couldn't put your finger on, a kind of glow? I have been around many people like that and it's simple. They seek the Lord and they are radiant? Why? Because that light on the darkest of dark situations can't be outshone. The light of the Lord and His joy causes this reaction in us and through us, to the point where other people will probably see it. Speaking of other people when we are radiant because of the Lord we won't be ashamed, because we won't be able to do anything else but give Him the praise and glory when someone asks about the radiance. All that said, I'm not talking about some fake smile plasted on like the Joker in Batman. This radiance is a true peace and joy that works itself from the inside, out. Trust the Lord, experience His peace and then let others see it and ask and don't be ashamed!!! Verse 6-Good point here. Do we ‘cry out’ to the Lord in our troubles or do we think falsely that we can get ourselves out of troubles? We get ourselves into troubles more often than we probably want to admit but in spite of that the Lord still wants us to come to Him in the midst of that. Verse 7-Who is the ‘angel of the Lord’? Jesus Himself. He is around us all the time and on the Cross He delivered us from anything and everything we will ever encounter in this life. Not to say we get to go around every trouble, NO He will be with us THROUGH anything in this life. Thank you Lord.

Psalm 34:1-3 “1 I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. 2 My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. 3 Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together.”

Verse 1-What a beautiful thing to say, but what a hard thing to do. Do we always 'bless the Lord at all times'? When we get mad and yell at the guy driving crazy, does that 'bless the Lord'? We bless the Lord by giving Him reference and honor. As His children we can best do this by being obedient to His Word. We won't always be perfect but we can make a conscious effort to be continuously praising Him, after all we woke up this morning and we are taking a breath as we read this, so praise the Lord. Verse 2-Whether we realize it or not people watch us all the time and are listening carefully to what we say, expecially when we identify as Christian. Not that we can be perfect, we can’t. But we can be humble and give God credit more times than not. That someone’s will say more than the Bible that so often people won’t read. Verse 3-Also we need to be people who magnify the Lord's goodness through our lives and come together to corporately exalt His name. That's what the church is for, to come together and praise the Lord for all He's done and all He will do. Let us be people who always have a reason to praise the Lord, even if our world is not going so well. Let us be people who magnify His goodness to others, that they may come to know Him.

Psalm 33:20-22 “20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. 22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.”

Verse 20-If we get real honest, does our soul really wait for the Lord? Or are we just waiting for the next tweet or Facebook update? When our soul is in a state of waiting for the Lord, we will meditate on His Word and we will cling to His every promise found within His Word. The logic of this world will no longer hold any value to us. He is also our help and shield. Why would need help and a shield if He never intended us to leave our 'safe' zones? The very reason He is our help and shield is because He wants to use us to reach our world. A church is not a museum for saints, it's a hospital for sinners. We can't simply occupy seats we need to step out, knowing that the Lord will provide for what He has called us to do. Let us be people who wait for the Lord and once we have heard from Him, people who step out boldly and move, unashamed of the Gospel. Verse 21,22-When we understand our hope is in Him then it becomes a lot easier for hope to be in Him and not of the things that can so easily distract us in this world. As we trust our heart will indeed rejoice because we know at that point that He never changes and He will never leave or forsake us.

Psalm 33:16-19 “16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. 17 A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, 19 To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine.”

Verse 16-People tend to think they are and will be saved by their accomplishments (wealth, status, etc.). The truth is none of that will matter. That’s not to say that we shouldn’t use our God given talent to glorify God in this life, it’s just to say we shouldn’t forsake the gift for the Giver of said gift. Verse 17-No matter how fast we run or drive or ride we can’t outrun God. Verse 18,19-This fear isn’t meant to mean that we are hiding behind a rock avoiding the hammer. No as believers we fear in a way that we don’t want to step out of line because we love Him and we know He loves us in spite of us. In fact it’s right here we hope in His mercy. We trust in His mercy. He has delivered us from death through Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on that Cross. And even in its ‘famines’ of our lives that doesn’t change after we trust in Him. The worst thing that happens on any given day is we take our last breath here and our first breath in eternity. Perspective is everything.

The Book of Psalms: A Wonderful Way to Reflect Daily

Psalm 33:10-15 “10 The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. 11 The counsel of the Lord stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. 13 The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. 14 From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.”

Verse 10-We sometimes fancy more of ourselves than what is actually factual. The astronauts that went to space recently remarked that on the darkside of the moon a lot of perspective took place. When we realize how small we are in comparison to the universe and galaxies it becomes a lot easier to stay humble. We also think our plans are better than God’s. Well, we can think that but He knows better in the end. Verse 11-God’s Word has endured many trials and yet here we are still able to read it. Verse 12-Nations that abandon God and His principles will see things not end well for them. To follow the Bible and never trust Christ will lead to a much better life than with no Bible at all. Do we need to trust Christ? Yes we do because that’s how we can follow His Word, by His power. Verse 13,14,15-God sees people outside of time. We can’t do that so it’s hard to comprehend the fullness of that in our finite minds. But we don’t need to comprehend it the way we do 2+2. We need to simply trust and obey, it’s not blind faith. There is a plethora of evidence for God and His Word. Take a little bit and see for yourself. What we don’t understand we trust in faith and one day we will understand in a way we can’t comprehend.

Psalm 33:6-9 “6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. 9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.”

Verse 1-What a beautiful thing to say, but what a hard thing to do. Do we always 'bless the Lord at all times'? When we get mad and yell at the guy driving crazy, does that 'bless the Lord'? We bless the Lord by giving Him reference and honor. As His children we can best do this by being obedient to His Word. Psalm 33:1-5 “1 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. 2 Praise the Lord with the harp;
Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. 4 For the word of the Lord is right, And all His work is done in truth. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.”

Verse 1,2-The call hear is to praise the Lord with music which has many parts. You know what else has many ‘parts’? Us. We should praise the Lord with all ‘parts’ of our lives. Time, money, possessions, voice, everything we have should give praise. Easier said than done. Verse 3-Our skills that we don’t think have much value often open the door for us to speak life into someone elses life. Look for those door and don’t be afraid to walk in one that has been opened. Verse 4-In the beginning God created….if we believe Genesis 1:1 then the balance of the Book is not an issue. Settle it in your heart and mind and then live it out. Verse 5-This world is not fair and most certainly not full of goodness. But in Lord He is all of those things. We live in the world but we can come to Him anytime and get a perspective adjustment so that we can be what we need to be in this world and yet be looking forward into eternity.

The Book of Psalms: A Wonderful Way to Reflect Daily

Psalm 32:8-11 “8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. 9 Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. 10 Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. 11 Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!”

Verse 8-He will show us and tell us what to do but it won’t’ always be easy or make 100% sense. Trust is key because His eye can see what we can’t. Verse 9-If we are honest, we at times have to be drug like a horse. Sometimes it’s shame that keeps us away and other times it’s simply disobdience. Truth is we have no reason to be ashamed and we need to pray for the courage to simply be obedient to what He has called each of us to do. Verse 10-Notice this verse doesn’t say we will be without sorrows. Quite the contrary. We will have trouble, Jesus promised. Thank goodness for mercy though, God could instead give us justice and we would get exactly what we deserve. Verse 11-Even so, with all the things that will go wrong, we need to come back to a place of remembering God’s goodness and faithfulness. When we can do that there isnt’t a life circumstance that can take us away from His love and His presence.

The Book of Psalms: A Wonderful Way to Reflect Daily

Psalm 32:5-7 “5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah 6 For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. 7 You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah”

Verse 5-Talk to people and they quick to admit (in general) that they aren’t as bad as say Hi**er. In God’s eyes sin is sin though, there are not levels. This clearly explains why we each need a Savior because we are all in fact guilty of breaking God’s Law and need someone to pay our fine. To get better though we have to humble ourselves and admit we have a problem though. THEN we can apply that payment Jesus made by His blood on that Cross and be forgiven and free. Verse 6-When the Bible says that our sins are in the sea of forgetfulness that is to say that in that great flood of guilty we are in, through the mercy and grace of Jesus those waters of judgment are unable to touch us and our lives should reflect the result of our thankfulness for that overflowing grace. Verse 7-God is and He shall. Two certain things that are so easy to forget. Remember these two things when life feels hard. He is faithful.
