The Hubble and Webb space telescopes have teamed up for a very comprehensive view of the Phantom Galaxy, also known as M74.
On the left is Hubble’s observation of the galaxy with its optical view. On the right is Webb’s view of infrared light. Where Hubble shows us young, blue stars and pink star-forming regions in the spiral arms, Webb highlights gas and dust within the arms. In the center of Webb’s image, you can see a large cluster of young blue stars.
Combining the data from both telescopes gives us the middle image, a truly unique view of the M74 galaxy, and a look at how Hubble and Webb will complement each other in space exploration.
