I’ve gone back and forth about sharing this because, truthfully, I don’t know that I’m completely ready to. But I also believe there is power in transparency, even when that transparency feels uncomfortable.
Recently, I received a few different diagnoses that finally gave me answers to things I’ve been struggling with for the last several years. Having answers brought some relief, but accepting what those answers mean for my everyday life; and what they may mean moving forward; has taken me longer than I expected.
I also feel like I owe a certain level of transparency to the clients and followers who have supported me, especially those who may have noticed that I haven’t been as visible lately. I could wait until I’ve completely processed everything and found the perfect words, but the truth is, I’m still figuring it out. And maybe there’s power in being honest about that, too.
I’m learning that my body doesn’t bounce back the way it used to. I have really good days, and I have days where normal things take far more out of me than they should. Certain types of sessions are harder on me physically than others and can put me down for quite a bit longer afterward. I can push through but my body makes sure I know about it later.
As we head into my busiest season of the year, I think it’s important to be open about the fact that busy season may look a little different this year than it has in years past. I may need more space between sessions, I may have to say no when I normally would have squeezed one more thing in, and there may be times when responses, galleries, or behind-the-scenes things move a little slower.
That’s difficult for me to admit because slowing down has never been something I’m particularly good at.
But I’m still here. I’m still working. I’m still pushing through, and I still love what I do just as much as I always have. I’m simply learning how to do it while also navigating things that have changed what daily life looks like for me.
I’m not ready to share every detail, and maybe that’s the point of this post. Transparency doesn’t have to mean sharing every piece of something deeply personal. Sometimes it simply means being honest enough to say, I’m going through something. I’m adjusting. And I’m doing the best I can.
So I’m choosing transparency before I necessarily feel ready for it. Not for sympathy, but for understanding, patience, and maybe a little grace as I learn what this new chapter looks like.
I’m still me. Still creating. Still showing up. Still incredibly grateful for every person who continues to trust me with their memories.
Things may just look a little different from here and I’m slowly learning that different doesn’t have to mean less. 🤍
