I've heard black dogs are harder to photograph. Well, being who I am, that doesn't scare me, I'm always up for a challenge. Well... They are. They often look like black blobs. Where's their eyes? Their noses? Their features blend in.
So I take all my little black minimutt, Baphy's photos to lightroom. Then I lift the shadows. Darken the highlights. If exposure needs adjustments I do that here, but if I nailed the lighting in the first place (I don't always) then I just tweak the contrast, increase it just a little bit. Sometimes darken the blacks and that's because lifting the shadows greys the blacks and this puts the black back without losing every detail you just lifted. That's it. Easy peasy.
