This weekend three of my pieces are currently on display at .art.cave in LAYERS. I wanted to take this time to share the meaning of these pieces.
Amalgamation (Photo 1): the action, process, or result of combining or uniting. This piece layers all aspect of myself. It’s the action of accepting who I am, the process of sharing and being unapologetic for who I am, resulting in this, a mess, still fusing, almost alien, definitively beautiful - an open being.
Blanket (Photo 2): the word blanket has many definitions and I see all of them reflected in this piece. Blanket the noun - being a soft piece of fabric used for warmth, a continuous covering, Blanket the transitive verb - to cover, to interrupt, to cause, to be included. Blanket the adj - effective or applicable in all instances or contingencies.
This piece is the act to protect myself, to accept, to comfort, to include, to apply myself, to be soft, to be continuous and ever expanding.
Acceptance (Encaustic): I did this piece when I felt very discphoric and stranger in my body. Doing this piece was an act of self love and a physical reconfiguration or accurate depiction of my body. Do I represent the societal norm of being trans? Maybe not but I still experience the separation in mind and body, I still struggle with how I look in the mirror like everyone universally does so this piece was an act of defiance towards my worst thoughts. This piece is me accepting and thanking my body for carrying me into the person I am now.
I’m so grateful I got to share these pieces. Thank you so much to .art.cave
for allowing me to be a part of such a special event.
