Some ask why it is still relevant to pause and remember an event that happened 25 years ago. Why is it so important?
It is important that we remember not only that the New York City skyline looked different then than it does today, but that we remember the 2,977 Americans who lost their lives and became part of a day that forever changed the world.
They came from every background, race, and culture. We must remember how our country united in the face of such a horrific terrorist attack, and how, despite unimaginable tragedy, New York City and its people came together, cleaned up, and rebuilt. With the support of fellow Americans and nations around the world, we rebuilt a skyscraper that stands bigger, stronger, and taller than those that stood before it.
Today, we honor the 2,977 lives lost in New York City aboard American Airlines Flight 11, which struck the North Tower (WTC 1), and United Airlines Flight 175, which struck the South Tower (WTC 2); at the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia, aboard American Airlines Flight 77; and near Shanksville, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, aboard United Airlines Flight 93.
We Will Never Forget. π½πΊπΈπ¦
