What she did not expect was how it would feel to actually like a photo of herself. No zooming in. No wishing. Just hers.

Not pick it apart. Not zoom in on everything you wish were different. Just look at it and feel good.

July is my birthday month and I am doing something new. You know that feeling of celebrating with your closest friends. The spa afternoon, the dinner you do not want to end. This is that, but in the studio. Three-four friends, one afternoon, sparkling wine, a makeup artist, and a mini session for each of you. Glam portraits or bo***ir, whatever feels right. You won’t remember what they said. But you’ll remember how they made you feel.
I think about this every time a woman steps in front of my camera.
She usually walks in a little nervous. Not sure how to pose, what to do with her hands, whether she belongs there. And I tell her the same thing every time: you don’t have to know. That’s my job.
What I’m really paying attention to isn’t the lighting or the angle. It’s the moment something shifts. Her shoulders drop. She stops performing and starts being. That’s the photo I’m waiting for.
Because months from now, she won’t recall the exact images we made. She’ll remember the day she felt powerful, seen, and fully herself. That feeling is the thing she carries out the door.
The photos are how we remember it. But the feeling is the point.

There is a whole wedding industry built around how you look for everyone else. The dress, the aisle, the four hundred eyes. Bridal bo***ir is the opposite of that. It is an hour that has nothing to do with the guests and everything to do with you. Maybe it becomes a gift for the person waiting at the end of the aisle. Maybe it stays yours. Either way, you walk out of my studio remembering you were a whole person before you were a bride.
