I finally put some Senegal photos up on my website. Hoping for a bigger story to come soon.

This past September, I spent a week in Senegal with Go Doc Go, a nonprofit providing women’s healthcare to women who have limited access to essential services in Ethiopia, Senegal, The Gambia and Haiti. Founded by Dr. Maggie Carpenter in 2014, the organization works with doctors and nurses who vol...

I've been trying to get the story together to pitch it to various publications, but I feel stuck.

Here is my latest Senegal post.

Here is my latest Senegal post.

Today was a good day. We got up early (which isn't truly my thing but the light does make for a good photo) to make the one hour and 45 min drive to the first clinic. I'll save those images for the full story down the road, but our docs trained midwives and local docs in cervical cancer screenings i...

—-The Women’s Series Update- Love4Ukraine——

Why are you going to Przemysl, Poland 8 miles from the Ukrainian border?
“I am going because I want to help. I want to help these people whose suffering I cannot fathom. Losing their homes, family members, friends, livelihoods…faith in humanity, likely. My own life has been so abundant, full of love, and relatively free of deep pain. I want to share this spirit, along with my practical skills as a doctor, with my fellow humans across the ocean, in case it helps even a little.

I’m definitely a bit scared to be so close to a war zone, but also excited and just feel really driven to go. I will be with my dear friend Muni Tahzib, MD who started these Love4___ disaster relief missions years ago, along with dozens of other (mostly women!) doctors from around the world. Our amazing local Ballard Pharmacy and my employer City MD have generously donated boxes and boxes of medical supplies that we will bring with us, along with other basic necessities for the refugees.

I completely understand being disheartened and overwhelmed by witnessing such violence in the name of power…still… in 2022! But I truly believe people are more good than bad. And I also believe that compassion can be contagious, and that we all have the power to influence each other for the good, no matter how seemingly small the gesture!”

—Our Normal—Tyrique 6-ADHD-ASD-Developmental Delay—
“When Tyrique is at home doing remote school my days are hectic. It’s constant noise and a revolving door of people coming and going in and out. My lunch hour isn’t used for eating. I’m usually helping him with a class or service or I have a video doctor visit scheduled. I often wish his dad was around so I could get a break and just be Adrina even for 5 minutes. But that’s not my reality, so I very rarely get to be just Adrina. I’m always Mommy, or Ms. Bell, or Junior's mom as the aide calls me, lol. But when he’s at school 3 days a week, I miss him. And I’m lonely and I’m always thinking about him and hoping he’s ok. Sure it’s quieter and I can focus on me and work, but he’s my best friend. And when it’s time to get him off the bus I get happier and excited. He’s my buddy.”

“Junior gets ABA everyday for about 3 hours a day. It has been helpful and he has learned a lot from the ABA. Those negative behaviors I have seen are still there so I would like them to concentrate on that. But his school is an ABA school so that was another reason why I chose it. The home health aide comes daily also. She doesn’t do too much because Junior is fairly independent. The OT comes twice a week. The only one that has made a difference in him is the ABA. He speaks more and uses sentences more in his communication. But since I am heading back to the office I have to discontinue these things for now until I see what my schedule will look like with work.”
