The sweetest NYC wedding on a day that many New Yorkers will never forget. With a backdrop of energy from game 5 of the MNBA playoffs, Alana and Aaron hosted an intimate and beautiful celebration at One of by Land, Two if by Sea. But first they got ready and shared private vows at the Bryant Park Hotel and took photos at the NY Public Library. Then they were picked up by a vintage cab and made their way to the West Village, among a sea of fans in orange and blue. A sweet ceremony was followed by an amazing meal, catching up with old friends, and dancing accompanied by a live saxophonist. As the official party wrapped up, a handful of guests gathered around a tablet to watch the final minutes of the game.

If you ask me about the best locations for photos, I’m always going to say it’s at home, at a place that you live or holds special meaning for you, or at your venue.

Being able to take photos in a meaningful location brings a comfort and connection to the images (and maybe even a surprise appearance by your neighbors like during Tanya and Stephen’s first look in front of their apartment!).

While I’m not opposed to doing wedding day portraits in locations other than your venues, making a lot of stops and traveling around just for photo backgrounds can lead to unnecessary stress and logistical challenges. It also sometimes means sacrificing quality time with your people, and I’m always team “moments over posing.”

A few years ago Caitlin and David both separately took a risk and moved from the cities they were living in to a small town so they could each be closer to their friends. That decision led to their meeting and their subsequent life together in small town New York. For their wedding they brought together their loved ones near their home and had a day filled with a ton of laughter, a little bit of theater, and a whole lot of love and dancing.

Sarah and Matt kicked off their wedding day by inviting all of their 40 guests to a live Peloton class with one of their favorite instructors. They then had a beautiful intimate wedding with a romantic rainy ceremony in Central Park followed by an amazing meal at one of their favorite spots. It was simple, special and all day felt warm and relaxed. The perfect ambiance for such a sweet and kind couple.
