Nafisa Skeie finds inspiration in people, and through her photography—a passion she's nurtured from age 16—she captures pure, authentic personal stories. Her own began in Singapore, where she was born, and continued in Oregon when she moved with her family in 2004. Along with an educational background in film and journalism, Nafisa studied elementary education at Portland State University and ther

e discovered a love for teaching. Now in New York, where she received formal training in photography, Nafisa combines all these elements in her work as a freelance photographer, focusing on portraits of families and children. Nafisa’s work has been published in international lifestyle magazines, and she spends her free time assisting other photographers with projects, traveling and hunting down the next great Pho spot.

Hello friends!

It’s been a minute, let me reintroduce myself. I’m Nafisa, a family photographer and now, a new Mama to my sweet 4-month-old baby boy here in Brooklyn, NY.

The past few months have been all about soaking up every precious firsts with him, adjusting to this new chapter with James, cherishing the moments of him and our little one together and navigating work and home life during his unpredictable nap times.

Motherhood has been such a wonderful journey, and I’m loving every second of it. Ok, maybe not so much the sleepless nights.

I’m so grateful for the flexibility to continue doing what I love which is capturing beautiful memories for my clients. Becoming a Mama has definitely deepened my appreciation for family photography in a whole new way. These moments are so fleeting, and I love being able to preserve them for others.

I’m excited to be back on the IG grid, sharing both my work and a little glimpse into our life as a family of three. Thanks for being here! ❤️

Little Peanut has arrived!

Double the nuts. ✌🏽🤣

Meet Idrus (Ee-drus) Skye. Our little guy came earthside on 10/10 at 12:05am after 30 hours of labor weighing in at 8.5lbs and measuring 20 inches long. We are in our little baby bubble right now and just trying to get into our rhythm with this little man who keeps bossing us around, especially when he parties at night (must get that from dad!).

I can’t believe we’re Mom and Dad now. This little guy is our little guy now, not one where I have to return back to their parents. Ahh! We love you, Idrus! ❤️

🍂 Fall is Here! 🍂

The air is getting cooler, and that means my favorite time of the year is approaching. Which also means it’s Fall mini sessions time! They are the perfect way to capture beautiful family moments, and I can’t wait to work with you again! Or meet you for the first time! Especially before our Little Peanut arrives.

These sessions would be great for your updated family portraits or something special for your holiday cards, they’re quick and relaxed and it will give you a chance to document your family just as they are – full of love and laughter. No need to wait for the leaves to change – these moments are all about capturing your connections.

A photo collage of James and me on our recent trip to Portugal and Belgium. We even got to travel with our friends before they embark on their own adventures.

James has been wanting to show me Portugal since he stayed there for a few weeks for work one summer. I’m glad we got to make this trip happen before Baby Peanut arrives in October. Portugal is stunning with its beautiful tiles, delicious pasteis de nata, and countless steps, including up the steeps hills. We even visited the southern coast for some beach time.

Traveling was different this time around since there’s a little human inside of me at 26 weeks. I often felt bloated. I frequently find myself rubbing my belly and talking to the baby about how it’s their first so and so. I can’t wait to show our little one new things when the time comes.

I joined James in Brussels at the end of his conference. I met many people he works with from around the world during the events. Hearing great things about him from the people I met made me a very proud wife. I didn’t experience much of Brussels since I was there for only a couple of days, but we enjoyed their fries, waffles, and chocolates. We also took a short trip to the quaint town of Bruges. A little tourist town but very pretty.

This trip ignited my love of travel with James and I can’t wait to travel more with our little one. For now, this little trip was perfect. Now back to work!

I love when families I’ve met from another state reach out when they’re in town for some family photos. I met the Moselys from the time I photographed their friend’s 40th birthday reunion in Charleston a couple of years back.

It’s like meeting long time friends again. How cute are they with their little boys. 🤗

I imagine being twins is like having a built in bestie from day one. From sharing inside jokes to experiencing life’s milestones together, the bond between them is kind of special. I was glad I was able to capture some moments for the Young family in their cozy home.

The nicest couple I’ve ever met. So kind and down to earth. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet their whole family for their baby shower. They were such a fun group and this baby is going to be so loved by many!

I can’t wait to meet the little one for her 100th day!
