Dad. A year down. Love you 🖤. I’ve felt like an alien in the last year after the death of a best friend and my dad. And yet, I’ve learned of so many people experiencing the death of a loved one in the last couple years. Parents, children, souses, friends, grandparents. All of it. Death/dying is so basic. And still, there is a remarkable silence around grief ritual and talk. I’m trying to wrangle some words together about grief things because it does feel that a year is an “acceptable” time to acknowledge grief. But I’m not at a sharing stage yet (and yes! Still have many photos edits to complete 😬). But also, this year marker is crap. There’s no magic salve at the end of a year. Last year, it was Hurricane Henri. We were concerned about streets flooding and blocking the entrance to the hospital. This afternoon, it also rained, and I appreciated the consistency and being back in my childhood home. Grief s**t, super fun, wild ride 🤩.
