BRUINS STAR STUDENT ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Presented by Barron’s Home Furnishings | FV Media

We are proud to recognize senior Grady Maylin as our Football Star Student Athlete!

As both a quarterback and linebacker for the Bruins, Grady embraces the brotherhood, competition, and opportunity to improve alongside his teammates every day. One of his proudest accomplishments has been earning the role of team captain and helping build a strong team culture.

With his senior season underway, Grady is focused on finishing strong, contributing to his team’s success, and pursuing his goal of playing football at the collegiate level.

In the classroom, Grady maintains a 3.29 GPA while taking challenging courses including College Biology, College Algebra, Medical Terminology, Language Arts IV, and American Government and Civics. His academic interests in exercise science and sports medicine reflect his passion for athletics beyond the football field.

After graduation, Grady plans to attend college, continue playing football, and pursue a degree that will prepare him for a successful career.

Outside of school and football, Grady enjoys weightlifting, spending time with family and friends, and working at Curry Equipment.

A special thank you to Barron’s Home Furnishings for making our Star Student Athlete Spotlight possible! Their continued support allows us to celebrate student athletes who demonstrate dedication, leadership, and commitment both in the classroom and in their communities.

Student Athlete of the Year: Every athlete featured throughout the school year will be in the running for our year-end Student Athlete of the Year award!

Congratulations, Grady! Your hard work and leadership are something to be proud of. Best of luck as you finish your senior year and prepare for the next chapter!

STAR STUDENT ATHLETE SPOTLIGHT

Presented by Barron’s Home Furnishings | FV Media

We are proud to kick off our 2026–2027 Star Student Athlete Spotlight Series, recognizing Brookings-Harbor High School athletes who demonstrate excellence in athletics, academics, leadership, and community involvement.

Our first featured athlete of the year is Paige Fallert, a junior setter for the Bruins varsity volleyball team, selected by Head Coach Vanessa Nidiffer.

With six years of volleyball experience, Paige has developed a passion for helping her teammates succeed. As a setter, she enjoys creating opportunities for others and watching them shine.

“My favorite part by far is being able to set my teammates up for success. I love seeing them get their kill and watching them shine,” Paige shared.

Beyond the court, Paige maintains an impressive 3.93 GPA while taking four college-level courses. She serves as Junior Class President, Link Crew Commissioner, and is involved in National Honor Society, Leadership, and Interact Club.

Her dedication extends into the community, where she has contributed over 350 volunteer hours. She also plays club volleyball, works as a head lifeguard and swim instructor, and serves as a basketball manager.

Following graduation, Paige hopes to attend an out-of-state university and pursue a master’s degree in speech-language pathology.

Congratulations, Paige! Your dedication, leadership, and commitment to your community make you a deserving recipient of this recognition.

A special thank you to Barron’s Home Furnishings for making this spotlight series possible. Their continued investment in our local youth allows us to celebrate the outstanding student-athletes who represent our community.

BRUINS VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS SUTHERLIN AT HOME

Brookings-Harbor volleyball returned to the win column Tuesday evening, earning a straight-set victory over Sutherlin at home.

The Bruins opened the match with a 25-19 win in the first set before taking further control in the second, 25-16. Brookings-Harbor closed out the night with its strongest set of the match, defeating the Bulldogs 25-14 to secure the 3-0 sweep.

Tuesday’s victory was an important response for the Bruins following a difficult road loss to St. Mary’s last week. With the win, Brookings-Harbor improves to 5-4 in league play and 7-7 overall.

The Bruins will have an opportunity to build on the result Thursday when they return to the road for a matchup with Coquille. With the league schedule continuing to move forward, Brookings-Harbor will look to carry Tuesday’s performance and momentum into an important road contest.

BRUINS GET BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN

Bruin Boys Soccer picked up an important result Tuesday evening, defeating the Sutherlin Bulldogs 1–0.

The Bruins controlled much of the match, holding possession and creating multiple opportunities in the attacking third. Despite generating several chances, Brookings-Harbor struggled to find the finishing touch and put the game away.

Defensively, the Bruins remained organized and kept Sutherlin off the scoreboard, making the lone goal enough to secure the victory and another clean sheet.

It may not have been the most convincing performance in front of goal, but the Bruins walk away with the result they needed as they continue through the second half of league play.

Brookings-Harbor will now turn its attention to Thursday evening, when the Bruins travel to Coquille looking to build on the win and continue climbing through the remainder of the season.

FINAL | Brookings-Harbor 1 — Sutherlin 0

Bigger Than The Game. 💙💛

Bruins Soccer took the field Tuesday evening against the Douglas Trojans, with both programs coming away with big wins. The Lady Bruins earned a 6–1 victory, while the boys finished with an 8–0 win.

But the biggest moment of the evening wasn’t a goal, a save, or anything that showed up on the scoreboard.

It was seeing our players, families, fans, coaches, and community come together as one to remember Carlos Lira.

Carlos meant so much to this program and to the Brookings community. His love for the beautiful game and the impact he made on the players, teammates, friends, and families around him will never be forgotten.

For a moment, the game became secondary, and we were reminded what being a Bruin is truly about — supporting one another, standing together, and being there when it matters most.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to Carlos’ family, friends, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.

Once a Bruin, always a Bruin. 💙💛
Rest in peace, Carlos.

BRUINS SWEEP SUTHERLIN ON THE ROAD

Bruins Volleyball put together a strong performance in Sutherlin Thursday evening, taking down the Bulldogs in straight sets.

Brookings-Harbor opened the match with a 25-20 first-set victory before finding another gear in the second. The Bruins controlled the pace of play, putting pressure on Sutherlin and pulling away for a convincing 25-15 win.

Sutherlin responded with its best push of the night in the third, forcing the Bruins into a back-and-forth battle late in the set. Brookings-Harbor stayed composed through the extended rallies and found a way to close out the match to complete the 3-0 sweep.

Senior #5 Ella Walter made her presence felt throughout the night, contributing on both sides of the ball and coming up with several big plays during key stretches of the match.

The Bruins will have a quick turnaround as they head south to Arcata for tournament play this weekend before returning home to face Coquille on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 PM.
