Prefishing on Choke Canyon for the Brandon Belt Fishing team series championship is done. Fortunately I finally hooked into a big one weighing over 10lbs but, unfortunately got it one day early. Bite has been ultra tough so was a real surprise hooking into this beast.

Was out on Toledo yesterday (6/24/23) and had a blast catching them offshore on ledges, flats, and a few brush piles. Caught around 30 total with the best 5 totaling 22.80. Seems like the bigger fish are just laying tight to the bottom, caught most of the better fish today on Finatik Baits 10” Colossal Worm in Plum Texas rigged with a 1/2oz weight. Was rotating between a big crankbait (XD10 and C-20), Carolina rig (Finatik Baits 5” Split Tail Electric shad) , and the Big worm (Finatik baits 10”Colossal Worm Plum) depending how the fish were setup on the spot. Key spots seemed to be ledges dropping into deep water fairly quick.

The 7’2” and 7’6” heavy Suppressor are my go to rods this time of year. With the fish being deeper the heavier action really allows you to drive the hook to them. There great for throwing Carolina rigs, football jigs, and big worms.

Got out on Toledo to do some searching around and was not disappointed with what I came across. Good numbers of fish offshore and on ledges with some decent size mixed in. Steep drops with flats near the drop seem to be holding the fish. Caught about 20-25 with 10 of them being over 3lbs, best 5 went just under 20lbs. Water temps were around 86 and key depths seemed to be anywhere from 18’-30’

Baits that’s produced the bites were a XD10 in sexy chartreuse shad, Finatik Baits 10” colossal worm Texas rigged in plum and the 5” split tail in electric shad color on a Carolina rig, make sure to go check them out at finatikbaits.com.

Got out with my buddy Average Fisherman Marler the other day and had a great time catching not only some good numbers but also a good one! If your looking for a guide around the area make sure to check him out! Biggest one of the day came on a C-Rig In feet of water on a cross bait 5” split tail. The suppressor series rod still putting in the work!

Rayburn is starting to turn on with the cooler fall temps setting in. Caught around 45-50 keepers today with most of them averaging around 2.25lbs but the big ones are still hard to come by. Biggest one today came on a XD8.

Couple good ones dragging football jigs(PB&J and blue craw 1/2oz) in 9-12 feet of water on hard bottom areas. The good bites are far and few between but always fun when you get them! 7’6” heavy suppressor by Old 18 Outfitters is great for getting a little extra distance on the cast and still has plenty of power to drive the hook to them.

Even with the water being 3 feet low and 90+ degree water temps there’s still a few hydrilla gorillas roaming the shallo...
